40 TEAMS COMPETE AT THE 2016 ISA SENIOR WORLD SERIES

COLUMBUS, IN. - The 2016 ISA Senior World tournament was once again held here in an effort to attract a wide range of teams to earn a world title on some of the best fields the state has to offer.  

This event also awards the champions with a berth in the Tournament of Champions which is held in Florida each February by Senior Softball-USA. The TOC is an “invite only” event where only champions of major qualifying events are invited. This year, 40 teams from eight different states gathered here to battle it out for the title.

50 Platinum Division: The 50 platinum division was the largest division with eight teams; Dave Jackson Nissan (IN), 50 Caliber/Dudley STL (MO), Big Ten Softball (IL), Brickyard Classics (IN), Gem City Softball (OH), LSDJN/MWP (IN), Pope Transport 50 (WI), and Team Ohio (OH).  Big Ten Softball, the No. 5 seed topped the No. 4 seed Brickyard Classics 20-16.  Big Ten Softball continued to move through the winner’s bracket with a win over Pope Transport 20-11 along with 50 Calibers win over Gem City 22-19 forcing a faceoff between Big Ten and 50 Caliber in the winner’s bracket final.  Big Ten Softball sealed their trip to the Championship game with a win over 50 Caliber 18-11. The same two teams eventually squared off in the finals with Big Ten Softball taking the championship 19-18.

50 AAA Division: The 50 AAA division was home to four teams including Blue Grass 50’S (KY), Legacy (KY), Team Illinois, and Team O5O (IL). Taking the top seed in bracket play was Team O5O, which went undefeated in seed play.  Team O5O and Team Illinois faced off in the winner’s bracket final and with a score of 19-15, Team Illinois sealed their spot in the championship.  In the title game, Team Illinois beat Team 050 again for the title 12-10.

55 Major Division: The 55 major division consisted of CPOA CLE/No OH Printing, Detroit Connection (MI), Doug & Don’s Auto Care (MI), JJ Financial Eagles (MI) and The Bank (DE). Doug & Don’s beat the Detroit Connection in the opening game and then took out top seed JJ Financial 16-13 and The Bank, the second seed, 18-9.  In the end, Doug & Don’s winning streak help up as they won over JJ Financial again, 16-11.

50/55 Silver Division: The 50/55 silver division consisted of the Jackson Merchants (MI), Antique Roadshow (IN), Central Illinois Chiefs and the Dayton Legends (OH).   In seed play, Antique Roadshow took the top spot and beat Central Illinois Chiefs 18-17 to advance to the winner’s bracket and then the Dayton Legends 18-11 to earn a spot in the championship game where they beat the Jackson Merchants 17-6 to take the championship.

60 Major Plus Division: Kinnco Services 60 and Pope Transport 60 played three seeding games mixed with the 60 Major division and then broke out into a best 2 out of 3 series.  Kinnco Services won the first matchup against Pope Transport 20-10 and followed that up with a 22-7 win for the title.

60 Major Division: This division consisted of the Motown Stars (MI), Kentuckiana Legends (IN) and Tubby’s Pub & Grill (MO). In bracket play, Kentuckiana took the No. 1 seed forcing the No. 2 seed, Tubby’s to face the No. 3 seed Motown Stars.  Tubby’s won 18-11 advancing to face off against Kentuckiana.  Kentuckiana won 14-3 forcing a rematch between Tubby’s and Motown Stars in the loser’s bracket.  Motown won 18-17 but lost to Kentuckiana 26-22 in the final.

60/65 Gold Division: The 60/65 Gold division consisted of two 65 Major Plus teams, Direct Employers/Indy 65 (IN) and Minnesota Masters/Ancell with the Masters taking the title with wins over Direct Employers 18-17 and 19-12.  Meanwhile, the 60 AAA leg of this division consisted of the Brickyard Classics (IN), Central Illinois Chiefs 60’S, Cincinnati 60’s (OH), Dayton Legends (OH) and MP Comp./Bomb Squad (MI). Bomb Squad topped the Brickyard and top seeded Central Illinois Chiefs to advance to the winner bracket final.  Cincinnati beat Dayton in the other end of the bracket and ultimately met them again in the title game, winning 25-24 for the championship.

60/65/70 Silver Division: This division was a mix of two 60 AA teams; Dayton Legends/ D. Dawgs (OH) and Indy Fog (IN) and five 65/70 Silver team; Mid State Seniors 65’s (IL), Badger Classics (WI), IN Legends/Columbus, Kentuckiana 65 (IN), and the Columbus Silver Sticks (IN).  In the 60 AA division, Indy Fog took the championship over the Dayton Legends/ D. Dawgs with scores of 19-18 and 14-10.  In the 65/70 silver division, the fifth seed, Kentuckiana beat Mid State and the top seeded Badgers. Meanwhile, the Indiana Legends beat the Silver Sticks, but lost to Kentuckiana in the winner bracket final. The Silver Sticks came all the way back to the championship game only to lose a nail-biter to Kentuckiana in the final.
