2016 CORNBELT CLASSIC RECAP

Sept. 1, 2016

OMAHA, Neb. – Good weather and 20 teams gathered for a great tournament at the 2016 Cornbelt Classic Aug 13-14.

With six teams in the 50's round robin, teams needed to bring their "A" game right from the start. K & V Steel out of Quad City did just that and swept the 50 AAA field undefeated.

J & J’s Sports won their three-team shoot out on Sunday in the 55 Major division.

There were three divisions with a best two-out-of-three game showdown on Sunday. All three went to the "if" game with Antiques of Iowa beating Reco of Omaha, Fossils 60's beating Minnesota Blizzards, and Bagbey's beating Oshkosh 60's.

The 65AAA division was the closest matched group of teams Tournament Director Gary Kruse has ever seen. On Saturday four-out-of-six games were decided by one run. On Sunday five-out-of-six games were a one-run difference, with the sixth only a two-run difference. All teams had one win and one loss going into the last game. Oshkosh 65's and Dugout won their last game, with Oshkosh winning because of the tie-breaker head-to-head rule.

Thank you to the teams and supporters who always make this a wonderful and fun tournament. You can still get your free team photograph by emailing Gary Kruse at gkcornbelt@gmail.com or gskrusen@cox.net.
