Sept. 1, 2016

Cal Van Boxell

Cal Van Boxell, 89, one of the founding members of North American Senior Circuit Softball (NASCS), died on Aug 29. He was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2003 in the category of pioneer player.

Cal started C. Van Boxell Transportation, a trucking company that lasted 59 years and which he proudly passed onto his children. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving both the European and Pacific theaters.

Danny Parker

Danny Parker, 66, passed away from his battle with cancer on Aug 16.

Originally from Michigan, Danny was a member of Beef O’Brady's Southern Trace out of the The Villages, FL this season, playing in the 2016 ISA Winter Nationals. "I was introduced to Danny only a year ago, and we became fast friends," said Paul Preuit, manager of Beef O'Brady's Softball. "Our friendship existed well beyond the softball field. He was enormously talented as a softball player, after all to be inducted into the Michigan slow pitch softball Hall of Fame was no small feat."

Danny has played in SSUSA tournaments for a number of years as a member of Michigan Express, as well as AMR (OH), among other teams.

Stuart Simily
