141 TEAMS COMPETE IN SESSION THREE OF LVSSA/SSUSA WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

LAS VEGAS – Session Three of the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships featured 141 teams across five age divisions, 65 through 85, playing Sept. 26 – 29.

In the seven-team 65 Major Plus division, Hamel Builders/Superior (VA) earned the first seed in the bracket by beating Timberworks Construction (CA), 30-28, in the USA National Championship Game.

The loss in the USA National Game fueled Timberworks in bracket play, as the team powered through the bracket going 4-0, including a 28-8 win in the championship game over Hamel Builders.

Despite dropping their first game in the bracket, Old A’s (CA) finished in third place by winning three straight games in the elimination side of the bracket before falling to Hamel Builders. Omen 65 (CA) rounded out the top four finishing teams.

In the 18-team 65 Major division, HermTech (MA) took the top seed in bracket play following its 26-25 win over Animals (CA) in the USA National Championship Game.

HermTech was unable to take advantage of its No. 1 seed, going 2-2 in bracket play, falling short of the Triple Grand Slam.

After going 0-2 in seeding play, R & R 65’s (CA) rattled off four straight wins to reach the championship game. An “if” game was needed to decide the champion, as Red Heat (FL) bounced back from its loss to R & R 15-10 earlier in the bracket by defeating Handeland Flooring (WI) 17-11 in the third place game and R & R, 14-9, in the championship game to force the “if” game.

R & R avoided being double-dipped winning the “if” game 28-21. Following its 0-2 record in seeding play, No. 17 seed Minnesota Masters/Ancell finished in fourth place bouncing back with a 5-2 record in bracket play.

Over The Edge (CA) earned the No. 1 seed in the 34-team 65 AAA division following its 22-4 win over Ohio Silverados in the USA National Championship Game.

Over The Edge looked to be well on its way to a Triple Grand Slam title, winning three straight games, before falling to eventual champion KC Kids (KS), 15-12. KC Kids would go on to defeat Sidewinders 65’s (AZ) in the championship game, 24-14, capping off a 6-0 record in bracket play.

Auto Accessory Distribution (WA) finished in third place after winning six straight games in the elimination side of the bracket, eventually falling to Sidewinders in the third place game, 30-29. Sims 65 (WA) rounded out the top four finishing teams.

In the 12-team 65 AA division, top seed Texas Rattlers posted a perfect 4-0 record in bracket play to capture the championship. The team defeated Tequila All Stars (CA) 18-15 in the championship game.

Dallas Spurs 65 (TX) finished in third place, while Oklahoma City Relics (OK) won four straight games in the elimination side of the bracket to finish in fourth place.

In the 70’s, five teams competed in the 70 Major Plus division, as Scrap Iron 70 Legacy (CO) earned the top seed via its 21-13 victory over Venom (FL) in the USA National Championship Game.

No. 4 seed W.E. Ruth Realty 70 (WA) made an impressive run to the championship game, winning three straight games, including knocking off Scrap Iron 70 Legacy. After falling in their first bracket game, Venom ran through the elimination bracket winning five straight games, including avenging their loss to Scrap Iron 70 Legacy 22-12 and double-dipping Ruth 21-1 and 20-5 in the championship and “if” games, respectively.

Omen 70 (CA) finished in third place, while Scrap Iron placed fourth.

In the 10-team 70 Major Division, Minnesota Prize 70’s went 2-0 in seeding play to earn the No. 2 seed, and went 5-1 in bracket play, including posting back-to-back wins over Tri-State Diamondbacks (NM) 19-13 and 17-9 in the championship and “if” games. Tri-State Diamondbacks made an impressive run to the championship game as the No. 9 seed, winning their first four straight games before being double-dipped.

Hooters Casino Hotel – Las Vegas/Ginco Plumbing (AZ) finish in third place, while Nick’s Diner finished in fourth place.

The 22-team 70 Silver division consisted of 19 AAA teams and three AA teams.

In the USA National Championship Game for the division, Syracuse Cyclones 70 (NY) defeated Game On (CA) 19-15 to secure the top seed in the 70 AAA.

Bouncing back from their loss in the USA National Championship Game, No. 2 seed Game On rattled off four straight wins to advance to the championship game. The other team in the championship game was No. 9 seed Sons of Pitches (CA) who came out of the elimination side of the bracket by defeating Scrap Iron 70 Red (CO) 10-5 in the third-place game. Sons of Pitches started off bracket play winning three straight games, before falling to Game On 14-9 to drop down to the third place game.

Sons of Pitches would avenge its loss to Game On, winning back-to-back games 19-14 and 9-8 in the championship and “if” games to capture the AAA division.
Masters Marauders (BC, Canada) finished in fourth place.

In the AA division, No. 3 seed Silver City Brewers (WA) went 3-0 in bracket play, including a 31-14 win in the championship game over Texas Classics 70’s. Mid-America Patriots (MO) was the third place finisher.

In the 75 Major Plus division, San Francisco Seals (CA) swept PDR Fastsigns (OR) 20-11 and 24-9 in a best two-out-of-three game series. The win also gave the San Francisco Seals the Triple Grand Slam title.

In the 75 Major division that featured eight teams, Pfeiffer/Doc’s Boys (MI) came all the way through the elimination bracket after dropping their first game to State Roofing Systems (CA) by winning six straight games, including back-to-back victories over Top Gun 75 Classics (75), 21-25, and 33-22, in the championship and “if” games, respectively.

Scrap Iron Beams (CO) finished in third place, while State Roofing Systems posted a fourth-place finish.

In the 10-team 75 AAA division, Minnesota Masters 75 posted a flawless performance, going 2-0 in seeding play, before winning four straight games in bracket play, including a 15-2 victory over Kokopelli Eye Scorpions (AZ) in the championship game.

Midwest Driving School 75 (KS) finished in third place, while Top Gun Silver 75’s (CA) finished fourth.

The five-team 80 Major division was won by Fairway Ford (CA), who ended Florida Investment Properties aspirations of a Triple Grand Slam, by winning the championship game 17-13. Florida Investment Properties had defeated Fairway Ford 11-7 in the USA National Championship Game.

Jimmy’s MN Legends 80’s finished in third place, while Texas Classics 80 took fourth.

Another five-team division, the 80 AAA division, saw Sacramento Gold (CA) go 2-0 in seeding play to lock up the No. 1 seed, before winning three straight games in bracket play, including a 22-3 victory over Davis & Associates (CA) in the championship game. The win would also give Sacramento Gold the Triple Grand Slam title.

Scrap Iron Grey Berets (CO) finished in third place, while Redwood City Chief 80s (CA) came in fourth.

In the three-team 85 Major division, Jimmy’s Legends 85’s (MN) defeated Center For Sight 85’s (FL) 23-21 before moving on to beat Southwest Stars 85’s (TX) 14-13 in the championship game.
