Birmingham Welcomes Southern Championships for 11th Straight Year

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The 11th Annual Southern Championships was held here Aug. 9-13 at Liberty Park Sports Complex. Twelve teams from around the Southeast region, including Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida, converged onto The Magic City for the opportunity at earning a berth to the 2018 Original Tournament of Champions in Florida in February.

Beginning with the Men’s 65 division, Edge Softball (TN), Men’s 65 Major Plus, swept Matador 65’s (FL), Men’s 65 Major, in a best two-out-of-three game series, by scores of 19-6 and 19-10, in the Men’s 65 Platinum division; while The Firm (TN) swept (By) Grace Redeemed (TN) in a best two-out-of-three game series, by scores of 18-9 and 28-6, in the Men’s 65 AAA division.

Masters Reloaded (TN) rebounded from an 0-3 showing in seeding play in the four-team Men’s 50 Major division, as the team breezed through bracket play with a 3-0 record, including a thrilling 17-16 win over top seed Monster Softball (TN) in the championship game. Lighthouse LookOuts/Athletic Shop finished in third place.

Alpha Life (GA), Men’s 55 Major, took the title in the four-team Men’s 50/55 Gold division, posting a perfect 3-0 record in bracket play, including a 17-8 victory over Kent’s Players/Magnolia Softball (MS), Men’s 55 AAA, in the championship game. TN Connection finished in third place, and will also receive a TOC bid as the highest finishing 50 AAA team via its 10-5 win over DT Express (GA).
