Aug. 1, 2018

RALEIGH, N.C. – For the first time in its history, the Southern Championships were held here at Parrish Womble Park, Aug. 17-19.  The tournament previously had an 11-year run in Birmingham, Ala.

Starting with the six-team Men’s 50 Gold Division, top seed Carolina Five-0 (NC) defended its home turf with a perfect weekend. The team went 2-0 in seeding play to lock up the No. 1 seed, before registering a 3-0 record in bracket play, including a 23-11 win over Big Bottom Brewery/Evolve Salon (PA), in the championship game. Big Bottom Brewery/Evolve Salon won three straight elimination games en route to their runner-up finish. Globe Trailers 50’s (FL) finished in third place.

The Men’s 55 Major Division was determined via a best two-out-of-three game series, as Carolina A’s (NC) battled Woodlawn Funeral Home (VA) through all three games. Woodlawn Funeral Home drew first blood taking the opening game, 32-30; while Carolina A’s evened the series with a game two win, 28-19. In the rubber match, Woodlawn Funeral Home was victorious 18-11.

Similarly, the Men’s 60 Major and AAA Divisions were also settled with a best of three series.

Reality Check (NC) used its home cooking to sweep Northern Virginia Force to win the Men’s 60 Major Division, while Lewisville Masters 60 (NC) swept Crossfit/Great Clips (NC) to take home the Men’s 60 AAA Division.
