SASSL Annual Banquet and Trade Show

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - San Antonio Seniors Softball League held its 33rd anniversary banquet and trade show at the Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center on Jan. 11.
Pete Peterson, SASSL banquet chairman, reported more than 400 players, families and guests attended. The banquet’s theme was the $1.15 million bond improvement to the SASSL playing facility.
Bill Altman, SASSL president, gave a brief history of the field improvement project and thanked the all-volunteer SASSL board for its work in making SASSL one of the leading local senior softball organizations in the country.
Bobby Saenz and Ron Henderson were inducted into the Texas Senior Softball Hall of Fame.
Banquet guests were also treated to several outstanding SASSL professional musicians volunteering their time and talents to provide live entertainment to round out a program featuring a catered dinner, recap of the 2019 season, preview of the upcoming 2020 season and the bond improvement project.
Rick Hammock, vice president of operations thanked all the managers and league commissioners for their dedication and leadership in helping to complete a successful 2019 season. He also presented a plaque to Reggie Weathersby who was chosen as commissioner of the year for his work with the 40+ league. Also recognized were members of team WCB who were first responders to an emergency during one of the 50 league games.
The banquet was preceded by a trade show featuring vendors interested in reaching active seniors in the San Antonio area. A bat vendor representing multiple bat manufactures, bat testing company, medical providers, retirement homes, Texas Senior Games and a travel agency were among the exhibiting vendors. The 2020 48-page Senior Sluggers booklet was also released at the banquet containing team pictures, board members, managers, league winners and other pertinent information about the league and its program.

SASSL is the largest local senior softball organization in the country with more than 1,000 registered players, 44 teams and six age-divided leagues in 2019.
