March 1, 2004 – Senior Softball-USA

CYPRESS GARDENS, Florida ˆ Gary Tryhorn of Berkeley, California, has been elected by acclamation to become the Summit chairman in 2006-2007 and the vice chairman in 2005 and 2008.

After spending 27 years with the Contra Costa Fire Department, Tryhorn retired in 1998 to play senior softball in a number of night leagues. He has competed in the Firefighters Olympics since 1980 and has won numerous medals with his fire department softball team.

Tryhorn began his senior softball career with the Dan Smith Plastering 50 team in 1995. He moved to the California Rebels in 1998 and that year won the only two national championships that the team entered, the World Series and the World Championships.

He joined the Old A's in 1999 and also competed with the Florida Crush. In 2001, he became manager of the Old A's. Since joining the Old A's, his team has competed in 28 national championship tournaments and has won 19 national titles.

He was inducted into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 1999. Two years later, he joined the SPA as the Pacific Coast Vice President and has been a member of the Senior Summit.

"The Senior Softball Summit has proven to be a huge success n bringing together the many factions that make up Senior Softball. It is amazing how all of the participants can come together for one goal: to improve the sport of Senior Softball," Tryhorn said.

"Senior Softball has seen an explosion of participation in the last 10 years and hopefully I can witness an ever increasing awareness in the participants to the pleasure of playing Senior Softball."
