Warwaick RI Qualifier Site of Reunion
Oct. 1, 2008 – Senior Softball-USA

WARWICK, RI – In August the first ever Rhode Island SSWC qualifier was held in Warwick, RI. Helping local tournament director Emilio Notarantonio with the player registrations and other administrative duties was SSUSA representative Steve Simmons. Simmons, a Minnesota resident since 1973, had a special affection for this tournament since he was born and raised in Warwick and resided in Warwick until 1971 when he moved to Chicago.
This tournament brought together three old classmates who were all part of the first graduating class of Warwick’s Pilgrim High School back in 1963. Simmons was reunited with Mike Agresti and Jack Archibald, both players on the Nassa Flooring 60’s team, the eventual 60+ division champion at the Rhode Island SSWC qualifier.
Said Simmons, “This is one of the reasons I really enjoy senior softball. The camaraderie among senior players is fantastic and to reacquaint myself with a couple of high school buddies just emphasizes this aspect of the game. Now I can look forward to maybe one day playing against Mike and Jack with my MN Prize 60’s team. Hopefully it won’t take another 45 years for this to occur.”
