Northern California Player Murdered while Working

Oct. 1, 2008 – Senior Softball-USA

Softball News Report

OAKLAND, CA. – Dave Wells, 62, a longtime senior softball player and manager, was murdered here in August.

According to a report in the Oakland Tribune, Wells was found shot to death in his delivery van a little before 8 am in a parking lot near the Oakland International Airport.

According to the Tribune report: “Oakland Sgt. Caesar Basa said the sheriff's deputy drove into the parking lot to check out the van because it was the only vehicle in the lot. Police were unsure how long Wells had been dead but believe he was an independent contractor who was in the East Bay making pastry deliveries.”

Wells was well known in Hayward, Modesto and throughout Northern California as both a player and manager. Most of Wells’ senior softball career was spent with The Farm.
