Stillwater League Gets Ready for Winter League
Oct. 1, 2008 – Senior Softball-USA
By Steve Simmons, Softball News ReportSTILLWATER, MN – The Stillwater Senior Softball Winter League is making preparations for its winter league season which will run from the irst of November through the irst of April.
The league plays their games inside the St Croix Valley Recreation Center all-purpose dome here. Last year, several new and younger players, just in their early 50s, were easily bouncing balls off the roof and walls of the dome.
Dick Mumbleau, league president, will assess the ball used last year (Trump 44 COR, 375 compression, optic orange) against a couple of candidates recommended by Anaconda Sports Inc for indoor play.
The sample balls provided by Anaconda include the bp-125 with a solid molded one-piece cover in dusty orange and a Trump 50 COR, 325 compression, optic yellow softball (a high COR, low compression ball that won’t get as irm in cold weather – most of the dome games are played in temperatures that are in the 50s and below).
"We have customers all over the country using the bp-125 ball indoors and it is the only one that is usable in closed buildings," said Kevin Schullstrom of Anaconda Sports.
Mumbleau plans to have a session inside the dome with a few players from the league to test out the three options and come to a decision on the best ball for the league.
