SSUSA Adopts New Home Run Limits

Feb. 1, 2009

Senior Softball-USA (SSUSA) is joining forces with the Japan Softball Association (JSA) to promote senior softball in a series of exhibition games in Taiwan in November 2009.

The teams will cap the Taiwan goodwill games by competing in the 11th Annual All Japan International Senior Softball Championships in Japan on Nov. 28-29. SSUSA has sent teams to compete in the All Japan tournament for the past 8 years.

The Japanese and American associations received a special invitation from the Chinese Slow Pitch Softball Association to help introduce senior softball in Taiwan.

“There are more than 3,000 softball teams in Taiwan, but few senior teams,” said Robert Hsu, Secretary General of the Chinese Slow Pitch Softball Association in Taiwan. “We know if our players saw these Japan and US players, they would start playing in a heartbeat.”

While the dates are still being finalized, officials say that the Taiwan games will probably be played the weekend before the Japan tournament, on November 21-22.

“We expect to have the dates finalized by the end of February,” said Susan Ruth, Director of SSUSA’s International Sports Holidays. “We will likely play and tour in Taiwan first, then fly to Japan for more games, sightseeing, shopping and cap it all off with the All Japan Championships.

“This is a chance for our players to see fascinating, new country and still play in Japan, one of the most popular tournaments outside of the United States.”
