Inter-Couny Rec Tournament to Showcase Legends

Feb. 1, 2009 – Frank Galuppo

NAPLES, Fla. – The SSUSA Southwest Florida Clubs & Leagues will be hosting an inter-county senior softball recreational tournament on Jan. 31 at the Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers. The participating Florida counties include Sarasota, Hardee, Highlands, Charlotte, Lee and Collier.

The purpose of the tournament is to showcase many of the Major Plus and Major players who participate in both national senior tournaments and Florida Half Century tournaments in addition to playing in local Southwest Florida recreational clubs and leagues.

The one-day tournament will consist of four teams, from the various Southwest Florida counties, playing a three-game round-robin schedule. Games will start at 10 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. The winning team will receive a donation of $1,000 for their softball program.

Some of the players in the tournament are legendary in the Southwest Florida area and some also are renowned nationwide. A sampling of the talent includes hall-of-famer Dave Reed, Bob Nice, Cliff Stratton, Dennis Schroeder, Ron Rieches and Tols Mihailoff.

Prior to the start of play, SSUSA Clubs & Leagues National Director Steve Simmons and SSUSA Clubs & Leagues Florida Regional Director John Truitt will address the players and guests and inform them of the benefits available through the SSUSA Clubs & Leagues program.
