Rules to be Hot at SSUSA Convention
Sept. 1, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One of the hottest topics at the ISA/SSUSA Convention here in December is expected to be senior softball rules. And at the top of the list will be the controversial Pitcher Safety Rule.
“We have been collecting suggestions on the rule since the beginning of the year,” said Terry Hennessy, SSUSA chief executive officer. “We will be giving these suggestions to the Rules Committee to study before the convention starts so that we can determine the best way to go on the Pitcher Safety Rule – and others.”
Hennessy said all of the managers and players who sent in recommendations on the rules will be invited to the convention to air their views to the Rules Committee.
“We feel it is essential to get as much input as possible so that the committee can produce changes that improve the game,” he said.
The second annual joint ISA/SSUSA Convention will be Dec. 1-5 at the Radisson Hotel at Opryland in Nashville. ISA is one of the Big Four softball associations in America with more than 15,000 teams and 180,000 players. ISA sanctions hundreds of leagues and tournaments each year.
Senior Softball-USA (SSUSA) is the largest senior softball organization in the world, publishing Senior Softball News, promoting the sport in more than 30 countries and sponsoring senior tournaments and leagues throughout the United States and Canada.
The convention not only decides rules for the year, but also holds seminars ranging from Marketing Tournaments to CPR Training to Bat Testing Clinics to International Travel to Umpire Clinics on mechanics.
In addition, dozens of sports manufacturers display their new products for 2010, there are Hall of Fame inductions and a wood bat softball game.
