SSUSA Kicks Off Clubs & Leagues Survey

Sept. 1, 2009 – Steve Simmons New England & North Regional Director, Clubs & Leagues

SHOREWOOD, Minn. – How many senior softball leagues are there in the United States? Is there anybody that can venture an educated guess? The SSUSA hopes to be in that position in the near future.

Not only does the SSUSA hope to be able to provide an accurate estimate regarding the number of senior leagues operating in this country, but the association will strive to provide information about each league including such information as location, days and times of play, age requirements, divisional structure, duration of season, contact personnel, etc.

The SSUSA plans to do this not only for SSUSA-insured leagues but for all functioning senior softball leagues in America.

Sound like an enormous task? Yes it is but the SSUSA already has a good start on making this a reality. This year there are more than 60 leagues in 13 states that are partnering with the SSUSA with regard to league insurance. All of these leagues are listed on the SSUSA web site under the REGIONS tab.

The SSUSA also has the resources to help pull this together. Currently, SSUSA has 34 Clubs & Leagues directors spread through nine regions. Eventually the SSUSA plans to have as many as 70 directors assigned to the Clubs & Leagues program, all working toward encouraging the clubs and leagues in their respective areas to partner with the SSUSA.

The existing directors have been given an assignment to prepare a list of all the senior softball clubs and leagues in their areas, including the pertinent information for each one. Once gathered, SSUSA will pull it all together in a virtual “yellow pages” of senior softball.

This, by no means, will be a complete and comprehensive list of the existing senior softball clubs and leagues in the United States but it will be a start. The compilation of a list of all the clubs and leagues will be an on-going task.

In the meantime, all SSUSA insured clubs and leagues will continue to have their information available for viewing on the SSUSA web site. Also, any non-SSUSA insured club or league can have their information displayed on the SSUSA web site for a nominal fee.

You can play a part in this ambitious project, which was set in motion this past summer. If you belong to, or know of, a senior softball club or league and you want that organization included in this directory, contact your local SSUSA Clubs & Leagues director with the information. If you are not able to contact a Clubs & Leagues director, then email the information to stnlsimmons@aol.com, attention Steve Simmons – SSUSA Clubs & Leagues National Director.
