23 Teams Vie in 7th Milwaukee Classic

Sept. 1, 2009 – Thom Mikich

BROOKFIELD, WI – Twenty-three teams competed in the 7th annual Milwaukee Classic Softball Tournament in Wirth Park here at the end of May.

The teams, in age brackets from 50 to 75, played in ideal softball weather, with temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s.

In a very competitive 65 division, Libby’s/United Seniors came from behind to win two games and clinch the championships in the six-team division.

Libby’s was trailing Chicago Grey 27-18 in the bottom of the seventh, but came back to score 10 runs to win 28-27. Later in the day, trailing 10-3 in the last of the seventh, Libby’s scored 8 runs for a 11-10 victory over Michael’s 65s to win the division.

Other winners included Can Do Metals in the 50 Division, Oshkosh Ambassadors in the 55 Division, Chicago Hitmen in the 60 Division, Indy Classics in the 70 Division and Pro Health in the 75 Division.

Mark next year’s calendar for May 24-26 for the 8th annual Milwaukee Classic. Based on this year’s results, it should be bigger and more competitive than ever.
