Covering the Entire Sport
May 1, 2000 – Senior Softball-USA editorial
This edition of Senior Softball News marks the beginning of a new chapter for our sport.Inside the News, there is extended coverage of all nine softball organizations, as well as the Combined National Team Ratings, and the standard features that have made Senior Softball News the largest senior softball newspaper in the world. In addition, later this year, we will be publishing a rulebook that contains rules for all associations.
For the past 12 years, this newspaper has covered the issues of senior softball, but focused on one organization: Senior Softball-USA.
Several things have happened in the past few years to change that focus. First and foremost, many of you ˆ our readers ˆ have requested that we expand coverage to include other organizations. Secondly, we have established a position of clear leadership in senior softball because of your support.
Today, Softball-USA is by far the largest senior softball organization, it publishes the rulebook and the largest newspaper, has the largest and most effective player registration system, coordinates international games with other countries, and has players in all 50 states and Canada.
The third development is the National Senior Softball Summit, which has allowed us to establish a strong relationship with other softball organizations. Although each organization remains independent ˆ and different ˆ we all are working together in many areas of common concern, such as team ratings and player misconduct.
We believe these changes will help our sport maintain its integrity while it continues to grow in massive strides.
