PALM BEACH SENIOR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION JOINS SSUSA FAMILY
June 1, 2010
By Bernie Dombrowsky Vice President / Administrative Director PBSSAThe Palm Beach Senior Softball Association (PBSSA), based in the Delray Beach,
Boynton Beach & Lake Worth area of Palm Beach County, is proud to have become
a member of the Senior Softball-USA family.
On June 11, we began a full pick-up game (M-W-F) schedule which will complete our 2009-2010 season. Over the course of the season, PBSSA has seen a spike in membership totals. Forty players have joined to participate in our fall, winter and pick-up game programs. We are very proud of the fact that we offer something for every ability level of player. During the upcoming 2010-2011, season three players will join our 80+ club bringing its membership number to 24.
The 2009-2010 season has been a banner year for our organization. We started with
our first pre-season tournament Octoberfest. Fun and intensity were
key ingredients in that program. Our fall league was comprised of eight teams in two divisions. We added four teams for our winter league – six in each division. The additional teams resulted from our significant increase in membership. Our double-elimination playoff tournament, which ends our winter season, has become a league staple and an unqualified success. Before our snowbirds move north, we set up our Spring-Summer season, which ended June 9. This year we increased the number of teams from five to six. We use this schedule to experiment with new rules and rule changes.
Social activities are also an integral part of the PBSSA season. Our yearly buffet
luncheon is a showcase. This year over 175 players, spouses and friends attended
the gala event. We schedule picnics at the end of each of our seasons
and groups of our players have been in attendance at Dolphin and
Marlin games at Sun Life Stadium.
