BILL READ APPOINTED RHODE ISLAND STATE DIRECTOR
June 1, 2010 – Steve Simmons New England & North Regional Director, Clubs & Leagues
NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI – Bill Read has been the Umpire in Chief for the Rhode Island Senior Softball League for the past two years. He has also acted as the UIC for the Ocean State Classic, the RI SSWC Qualifier, since 2008. He has provided umpires for both those activities to the satisfaction of Emilio Notarantonio who is the RISSL president as well as the tournament director for the Ocean State Classic. When Read handled these functions in 2008 and 2009 he did so as the Rhode Island ISA State Director. The ISA is the SSUSA’s sister organization in the full program realm of softball organizations. As such the umpires who work for ISA are also registered and certified to work SSUSA games, and vice versa.
This year Read is involved with USSSA and is a director for that association. Notarantonio didn’t want to lose Read’s umpires so Read requested to serve as the SSUSA Clubs & Leagues Rhode Island state director so he could register his umpires with SSUSA. Terry Hennessy approved that move and Read was appointed Rhode Island state director.
Tom Marum, the SSUSA Clubs & Leagues New England Area Director, will now oversee five states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine). Read will handle the sixth state, Rhode Island.
If you are involved in a Rhode Island senior softball program and would like to know more about partnering with the SSUSA’s clubs and leagues program, you can contact Read. Here is his contact information:
