LETTERS FROM THE READERS: TEAMS RESPOND

June 1, 2010 – Letters from readers

I believe the publicly reported suspension after the 2009 World Masters tournament of two Minnesota teams (Ancell softball 55+ and 50 +) and players Dan Krtnick, David Mattson, Steve Pease and David Slack was an ex post facto ruling by LVSSA Inc. management in order to blame someone and find a scapegoat for their own incompetence.

Both Ancell teams requested to play at the AAA level as non-NRS teams by providing rosters to LVSSA and subsequent email requests about specific players. The above named players were either pre-approved by LVSSA officials or had played in August 2009 at the appropriate level in a sanctioned Senior Softball World Championship tournament prior to playing in the September/October 2009 LVSSA World Masters tournament.

In addition, one must assume LVSSA officials would have followed their own rule 1-C, Note (2) and Note (3) during the seeding round by allowing both teams to continue and play in the AAA championship round. I believe the serious injustice of this matter will have repercussions in the senior softball community that will now be difficult to overcome, especially due to the public naming of players and teams before all legal avenues have been exhausted.
