Sept. 1, 2010
By Bill Altman,League Commissioner
The San Antonio Seniors Softball League (SASSL) ended their summer season in August with 22 teams and more than 400 seniors competing in four age divisions.
First place winners in each division were:
50+Alamo Coty Boyz managed by Domingo Garcia
60+ Tornados managed by Gary Kirk
65+ Crackers managed by Charlie Franklin
69+ Old Stars 70 managed by Sam Laque
The fall league begins in September and lasts until mid-November with 23 teams expected to play.
SASSL in conjunction with the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Dept. is renovating two old playing fields at Normoyle Park for league play. Work on the old baseball field to convert it to a regulation senior softball field is 98 percent complete. The field is in excellent condition and is used as the primary playing field for the league.
Work on the adjacent old softball field is in progress and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2010. SASSL is moving the light poles and lights back about 50 feet to achieve a regulation senior softball field. A new outfield fence will then be installed and a scoreboard added in time for the start of the 2011 season.
When all work is completed SASSL will have two regulation lighted senior softball fields to conduct its expanding program.
