FINALLY! A SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL GUIDE
Dec. 1, 2010 – Senior Softball-USA
One of the gurus of sports – and a national senior softball Hall of Famer – has published one of the most comprehensive books ever written on slowpitch softball. The 336-page “Complete Guide to Slowpitch Softball” gives you exactly what the title promises – and then some. It includes not only very clear and detailed instructions on improving the fundamentals of the game, but it discusses strategy, as well.
Rainer Martens spent 16 years as a sports psychology professor at the University of Illinois working with many college and Olympic athletes. He was the sports psychologist for the U.S. Ski team for six years.
For the past several years, Martens has played on one of the top senior softball teams in America: the 65 Major-Plus Florida Legends/ Human Kinetics. His team won the 2010 Triple Grand Slam in Phoenix – one of only four teams in the country to accomplish the feat.
Co-Author Julie Martens, Rainer’s wife, not only played fast-pitch softball, but tennis, basketball and field hockey. With her interest in sports, it was not surprising that Julie completed her doctorate in physical education.
The Guide is divided into Defense, Offense, Preparation and Coaching and is replete with photos, diagrams and – more importantly – advise based on years of actual participation and practice of sports psychology.
“This book will become the bible of slowpitch softball,” said Terry Hennessy, SSUSA’s chief executive officer. “I highly recommend it as required reading for managers, new players, old players – and anyone who wants to know how to effectively play the game.”
