SSUSA LAUNCHES NATIONAL DIRECTORY FOR SENIOR LEAGUES
May 1, 2011 – Senior Softball-USA
SACRAMENTO – Senior Softball-USA has launched a major campaign to identify and list every senior league in the United States on its website, www.seniorsoftball.com.“The purpose of creating this Senior League listing is to help any senior in America find a place to play softball,” said Terry Hennessy, SSUSA’s chief executive officer. “We hope to have most senior leagues listed by the end of 2011.”
The SSUSA campaign comes at a time when senior softball is booming.
The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association reported in 2010 that the most popular participatory sport for baby boomers is slow-pitch softball, with 22 percent of baby boomers participating.
There are approximately 76 million baby boomers in America, meaning there are 16.7 million playing slow-pitch softball.
“A number of those baby boomers play in senior clubs and leagues. Over the past four years, we have been developing a program to help these clubs and leagues get insurance, buy balls at a discount and play with senior rules (including senior bats and balls),” said Hennessy.
“Steve Simmons has done a remarkable job laying the foundation for the program by building a network of directors throughout the country, a menu of goods and services and launching Recreation Tournaments,” he said.
SSUSA Regional Directors will be spearheading the effort to identify all senior leagues and SSUSA officials are asking players to contact the Regional Directors, listed on this page, to let them know of any senior leagues in their areas.
