CAN-SIRS CORNER - CAN-SIRS TEAM PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR PLAYERS WITH CANCER
Oct. 1, 2011 – Pete Davignon Can-Sirs Executive Director
The CAN-Sirs, a non-profit organization of senior softball players, has completed its first year. The CAN-Sirs are senior softball players who have survived cancer or have a family member with cancer.
The CAN-Sir team participated in Senior Softball USA’s Rock n’ Reno tournament in June and at the Western Nationals in Woodland. More than 50 players participated with the team. The CAN-Sirs also played in the Hall of Fame Tournament in Manteca. CAN-Sirs are planning on participating in the Huntsman game in Utah and will enter the SSUSA Championships in Phoenix.
The team is entered as exhibition so that players from other teams can join the CAN-Sirs for a game without penalty to their regular team. The purpose for the team entering tournaments is to remind senior players to be aware of the necessity to take measures that will prevent cancer and promote healthy living.
CAN-Sir teams are sponsored by the non-profit. If a senior would like to form a team to promoter cancer awareness, they will be supplied with jerseys and caps and the entry fee will be paid by CAN-Sirs. CAN-Sirs will also disseminate press releases promoting the team. Any interested senior or senior tournament can get more information at can-sirs.org or by email to can-sirs@att.net.
CAN-Sirs also held their first annual fund raising tournament in Elk Grove, Ca. Twenty-eight teams from three states participated. The tournament will again be held in May in 2012 in Elk Grove.
CAN-Sirs welcomes all senior softball player to join our cause. You can become involved either by sending an email to can-sirs@att.net or mail your address to CAN-Sirs, 2485 Notre Dame Blvd #370-180, Chico, CA 95928.
