A LOSS FOR THE SPORT, FOR US ALL
Sept. 1, 2012 – Terry Hennessy CEO
Steve Simmons was a friend of mine... heck, he was a friend of everyone he met. Who else could you call on to run a softball tournament when it was snowing?Steve was the quintessential nice guy. In fact, there was no one nicer around the game of senior softball. He was there for all of us . . . at any time and any place.
He put on winter tournaments in Minnesota and many other tournaments throughout America. . . and people came...more and more every year. There was no project he wouldn't take on. Not only did he love the game, but more importantly he loved the people. . . all the people.
Steve understood that senior softball creates a unique opportunity for sportsmanship to thrive.
Sportsmanship stands for all that is good in the sport: passionate competition played with good humor and good fellowship.
The power – and beauty – of good sportsmanship is that it inspires a love and appreciation of our sport for all who witness it.
These are the qualities that defined Steve Simmons on and off the field.
Steve was an excellent athlete, an exceptional director, and a true friend. He did some amazing things for us and the sport…always with integrity, always with grace and always with humor.
We’ve all lost something with his passing.
