MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS:50 TEAMS COMPETE - IN A VARIETY OF WEATHER
June 1, 2011
SHAWNEE – The 6th annual Midwest Championships drew more than 50 teams here with 42 teams coming from outside the Kansas City area. The second session had hot, dry weather but the first session was a different story.
“There was a rain delay of nearly two hours after the first game Saturday,” said Donna McGuire, Midwest Championships umpire in charge, “but the fields took the rain well, and the grounds crews needed only 15 minutes to get them back in shape.”
To adjust for the rain delay, the games were shortened to 50 minutes or five innings, whichever came first.
In a close race, Miken Renegades took the six-team, 55 AAA Division over Sports Image (19-18). Ancell 55’s won the 55 Major Division in a best-of-three series with Glori Daze.
The 60 AAA 7-team Division tied the 50’s Platinum Division for the largest division of the tournament. USA Patriots double-dipped the Chicago Classics Bobcats, 12-9 and 16-11, to win in the “If Needed” game and the 60AAA title.
