Roger Clemens Joins Senior League
Dec. 1, 2012
SUGAR LAND, TEX. – Controversial former major leaguer Roger Clemens has found a new home to showcase his considerable baseball skills: the local senior softball league here. Clemens, who recently turned 50, can be found patrolling left-centerfield for Hendricks Sports Management, which is sponsored by his longtime agent Randy Hendricks. The former seven-time Cy Young award winner hasn’t pitched in the majors since he was with the New York Yankees in 2007, but this past year did take the mound in a minor league game.
He told the Houston Chronicle that “I really play in that league (Harris County Senior Softball League) for the exercise and the fun. It is Mr. Hendricks’ team and he sponsors it so I got his logo on my chest.”
In one of his first games, Clemens proved to be the ideal clean-up hitter by knocking it out of the park twice and was happy to discover that here “when you hit a home run, you only have to touch first base.”
Clemens also pointed out that his local senior softball team shouldn’t be confused with Hendricks” Houston Texans’ travelling team which has won numerous national and international slow-pitch softball titles.
Opposing players no doubt would like to challenge Clemens’ throwing ability from deep left center, but they also could soon find out why he’s been called “The Rocket” for years.
