and foot must be touching mat or completely out of the white lines...most umpires don't call this except when they see entire foot in front of plate as the lines are usually gone after the first couple of innings....but not at golden eagle in reno!!!! doker

The batters box is 3' by 7'....4ft forward and 3ft back...36'' wide and 3" from plate....or 2" from rubber mat which is already 1" off plate...doker

HEY guys!!!!!!!! why do we even answer dirty's remarks ??? from what i've heard on this site is he doesn't even play senior ball!!!!!!!!! no play no say!!!...I've played now for 13 years and the rules as they are now are great...they address many safety issues and the run rules even the game out...so that one team doesn't totally dominate a game....when you pay 100's of dollars to fly and play that is all we can ask for ....great competition and ever changing friendships...that we have for the rest of our lives....THATS WHAT MAKES OUR GAME SO GOOD AND SATISFYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...DOKER

Discussion: Hybrid Turf Fields

Hey guys if you haven't played in reno on those turf fields you're really missing out...we have the same surface here in Austin at the UT baseball fields....the ball actually slows down a bit when hit hard on the ground...not like the old astro turf fields...and it really doesn't bounce very high in the outfield...a great surface even in Reno in late May....Doker............great bounces and slower through the infield than a hard dirt infield!!!!!!!!!!

I agree #6 the same for all...what's the problem??? Most associations are thinking of going to this base length but just haven't done it yet and wouldn't this make it a little safer for the infielders and pitcher with a good ball and the ultra bats???..doker

Discussion: some thoughts about our game for change

By the way!!! I'm almost 63 and playing in 60aa ,coach of the Austin Lonestars a team i started myself after moving to Austin several years ago. I've played on more competitive teams but choose to play with buddys here in Austin and now play more for the fun and comraderie than for the competitive advantage..If i was in better physical shape i cud possibly play in the upper divisions but as i said...i choose not to....My point is... not all of us play the game as life and death anymore...just for the fun of it...so lets not change the rules!!!! they're pretty good as they are now!!!...DOKER

Discussion: some thoughts about our game for change

You guys obviously don't coach a team!!!!...You have no idea how hard it is to come up with enough players to travel to different tourneys around the country....I don't know about you all but it cost approx $1000.00 each time to venture to phx/rno/atl/slc/las..to attend the really good tournaments...and that means everyone gets to play in every game.Players are not forced to run for anybody they do it because they want to and it is done because someone is slow or hurt or physically unfit to run.Not always to gain a competitive advantage and if so ..isn't that a part of managing a team during a game. The rules are there to use and they are good rules that allow more players to participate in the game they love and far beyond the time they thought they wud still be playing. All of us are not what we used to be and any rule and equipment we can use to get close to 'what we used to be' is good both for our physique and our ego. Which as we get older takes one hell of a beating...Bats,balls and mat have all been changed over the years...the mat is now 2inches wider at 19in and longer at 34.5in than it used to be. Cud it be bigger ...maybe.....but the ball we use in ssusa is great and the bats are the best made!! Why not use them???...Just my thoughts as a player and coach for the last 13 years in Senior Softball....DOKER

HEY GUYS WHAT IS ALL THE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FIELD SIZE ABOUT???....THE ORGANIZERS OF THE BIG TOURNEYS REALLY TRY TO PLEASE AS MANY OF US AS THEY CAN!!! I KNOW DAVE AND FRAN AS MOST OF YOU DO TO AND THEY REALLY AREN'T TRYING TO SCREW WITH ANY OF US...JUST TRYING TO RUN AS GOOD OF A TOURNAMENT AS THEY CAN...LOGISTICS OF RUNNING A TOURNAMENT OF THIS SIZE IS ASTRONOMICAL AND I THINK THEY DO A PRETTY GOOD JOB...AFTER ALL YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE...AS FOR THE PRICE OF THE TOURNEY I TOO BELIEVE IT IS TOO HIGH BUT THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE MONEY...AND SINCE ABOUT 300-400 TEAMS SHOW UP, IT MUST NOT BE ALL THAT BAD!!!..I PLAYED WITH A 55TEAM IN SALT LAKE THIS SUMMER AND PLAYED ON 275FT FENCES...TALK ABOUT BEING IN THE WRONG PLACE!!!! ALL OF OUR LINE DRIVES WENT RIGHT TO THE OUTFIELDER AND OUR FLY BALLS WENT OVER THE FENCE!!!! SO I GUESS THAT'S JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT.....DIFFERENT VENUES HAVE DIFFERENT REC DEPARTMENTS THAT HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDAS AND MAKE THEIR FIELDS ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN CIRCUMSTANCES BE IT LONG FENCES OR SHORT ONES AND THE TOURNEY ORGANIZERS DON'T REALLY HAVE THAT MUCH CONTROL ON FIELD SIZE. THEY GET THE FIELDS THEY CAN AT THE TIME THE TOURNEY IS ANNOUNCED AND HAVE TO ADJUST OR MOVE SOME AT A LATER DATE CLOSER TO THE ACTUAL TOURNEY DATE. JUST MY TWO CENTS ON THE MATTER ...SEE YA'S IN PHX...HITEM LONG AND HITEM HARD...DOKER 60/AUSTIN

DOKER HERE!! JUST ADDING MY TWO CENTS!!!!...I WAS AT THE SPA IN DALTON THIS LAST WEEKEND I PLAYED WITH THE DALLAS SPURS INSTEAD OF MY OWN TEAM IN 60AA.W/SPA ONLY......FROM WHAT I KNOW ABOUT WHY THEY WERE MOVED UP ..IS THAT ONE OF THE TEAMS PROTESTED SOME OF THEIR PLAYERS BEING MAJOR AND MAJOR PLUS ON OTHER RECENT TEAMS...I WAS JUST A PLAYER SO I WAS NOT THAT INTO IT.....IN THE PRELIMS THEY WERE THE ONLY TEAM THAT SCORED MORE THAN 20 RUNS IN A GAME AND THEY DID IT IN ALL THREE OF THE PRELIMS.THEY PLAYED REALLY GOOD AGAINST US..ALTHOUGH WE DIDN'T HIT THAT WELL IN THAT GAME... THEY BEAT US BY 15...THEY WERE A GOOD BUNCH OF GUYS AND I FEEL FOR THEM..AS THEY WERE AT THE TOURNEY ALREADY AND RANKED 60AA...THEY PROBABLY WUD HAVE WON THE TOURNEY EASILY BUT AGAIN THAT SHUD HAVE BEEN DONE BEFORE THEY GOT THERE.....BUT THEY WERE ALSO COMPETITIVE IN THE 60AAA GAMES THEY PLAYED...NEVER GETTING BLOWN OUT AS THEY WERE DOING TO US.......ALL IN ALL THE DALTON AREA IS AWESOME I WILL BRING MY OWN TEAM BACK NEXT YEAR...AS THE COMPETITION WAS REALLY GOOD....HOPE TO SEE YA'S IN PHX AND LAS IN OCT-NOV....DOKER

YOUR RIGHT FREDDIE....WE HAVE GONE TO THE SLC AREA TWO YEARS IN A ROW AND HAD 3TEAMS IN 60AA LAST YEAR AND THERE WERE 5 THIS YEAR...SO WE DIDN'T GO....I PLAYED INSTEAD WITH A 55TEAM AND WE ONLY HAD THREE 55AAA TEAMS AND THERE WAS ONLY ONE 55AA TEAM AND THEY PLAYED WITH THE 55AAA....WE ALSO PLAYED ON A 275 FENCE FIELD AND CUD ONLY HIT ONE HOME RUN THEN OUTS WHEN WE PLAYED THEM...I'M ONE THAT RESPECTS THE HOME RUN LIMITATIONS BUT ON A 275 FENCE THEY SHUD HAVE BEEN SINGLES AFTER THE LIMITS WERE REACHED..AS WE PROBABLY HIT 15-20 OUT IN THE SIX GAMES WE PLAYED AND OUR LINE DRIVES WERE EASY PREY FOR THE FIELDERS DUE TO THEM BEING 20-30 FEET CLOSER TO THE PLATE....ALL IN ALL THE TOURNEY WAS RUN WELL AND THE FIELDS WERE GREAT..EXCEPT FOR THE CLOSE FENCES...HOPE THEY TAKE THIS TO HEART IN THE FUTURE AT MAJOR TOURNAMENTS WHEN SETTING UP RULES FOR THE DIFFERENT AGE BRACKETS....SMALL FIELDS...THEN NO OUTS OVER THE FENCE...........I WUD LOVE TO SEE THE WESTERNS IN A DIFFERENT STATE LIKE SAY DENVER AS IT IS MUCH EASIER TO GET TO....OR THE SUNNYBROOK COMPLEX IN SAN JOSE....10 FIELDS....JUST MY THOUGHTS....DOAK

IF THE RUNNER ROUNDED 1ST AND THE FIELDER TRIES TO THROW HIM OUT GOING BACK TO FIRST THEN 3RD BASE AWARD IS THE ANSWER...BUT IF THE THROW WAS AN INTENTION OF GETTING THE RUNNER ON THE BATTED BALL THEN THE AWARD REVERSES BACK TO THE POSITION OF RUNNER AT THE TIME OF THE PITCH.....A THROW FROM THE OUTFIELD IS ALWAYS TWO BASES FROM THE POSITION OF THE RUNNER AT THE TIME THE BALL GOES OUT OF PLAY...HOPEFULLY THE UMP WAS PAYING ATTENTION!!!!

A-----IF RUNNER RUNS TO FIRST AND DOES NOT TOUCH FIRST AND 1ST BASEMAN APPEALS THIS TO UMPIRE BEFORE TIME IS CALLED AND BEFORE THE RUNNER RETURNS BACK TO 1ST BASE HE IS OUT....1ST BASEMAN JUST HAS TO APPEAL VERBALLY BEFORE THE RUNNER RETURNS......B-----1ST THROW FROM THE ___INFIELD ON A BATTED BALL IS ALWAYS TWO BASES FROM THE POSITION OF RUNNERS AT THE TIME OF THE PITCH. ABOUT A---- AGAIN THIS YEAR ...IN SSUSA...IF YOU FAIL TO TOUCH THE ORANGE BAG WHEN A PLAY IS BEING MADE ON YOU THE UMPIRE CAN CALL YOU OUT...NO APPEAL NECESSARY
