Dirty, I agree with you 100%..Maybe SSUSA in the future will give this some serious consideration, and right this wrong!

Wise Guy,

When you stated " having the TOC in Feb. only makes the situation worse", has been my point all along. My point was never to go on here and accuse teams and players of cheating or violating the rules. If in any way what I said came across like that, then I apologize. But, what I was saying is that in order for players who require medical attention, and allow them time to heal so that they can play the following year, or, to allow players who may move on due to whatever reason, it would be the right thing to do for SSUSA, to allow these members of championship teams, who worked and played hard in order for their team to qualify for this prestigous tournament, and deserve the right to play in the TOC, to play in the same year that they won the qualifier. This IMO would be the best way to eliminate any of the roster problems that seem to come up playing the TOC in the year after teams qualify for it. Just think about the BCS National Championship being played the year following the season, and some of the players can't play in it because they were drafted into the NFL, or have graduated and moved on. Would it then be considered a Chapionship. This tournament (the TOC) crowns the Champion of ALL Champions, for that year, and needs to be done correctly!

Discussion: Flared or cone knob ???

For years I used tape to taper the end of my bats. A few years ago I switched to the Knobcuff because some associations do not allow you to taper the bat with tape, it is considered altering the bat. So it is easier to remove a knobcuff than it is to remove tape. I find the use of a tapered end to be more comfortable to me. It's just a personal preference. There are many players in MLB that taper the end of their bats, and I'm sure they would say the same thing. Whether you need it or not, is not the question. But, as a hitter, if you feel it helps you in any way, then that's all that matters.

We do our best to stay tournament ready. Like you guys on the west coast we've been playing this game for awhile and it doesn't take too long to get back in the groove. If you play year round then you have an advantage over those that don't, and that's all that was meant. I read the statement and understand the reasons for SSUSA continuing the tournament in Lakeland, but that is a small part of what has been stated. What brought this thread about was the fact that guys are coming on this website and advertising their availability to play in a tournament that they are, by the rules, not eligible to play in. Or teams advertising for players not on their origional roster, and that raises questions about the integrity of the tournament. Now, SSUSA has nothing to do with these posts, and I am well aware of that. And they have done their best to explain or direct these individuals to the rules of the TOC. That being said, to avoid roster problems from coming up, then I believe that the tournament would be better off if it were to be played in the same year that you qualified for it. That's all. Other than what has been said, it is a wonderful tournament, and a great time.

Hey Harry, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys at the TOC. You have a great group of guys on your squad, and I for one will miss playing you guys next year. P.S., We may need more than one chain! LOL

I consider the TOC to be a well earned honor, as far as the game of Senior Softball goes. I would never advocate boycotting or anything like that. What we all want is to play on an even level. That is why I believe it should be moved to the same year in which you win the berth. It is easier to maintain the integrity of the roster, and therefore eliminate the need to pick up players. It would then be considered a true Championship. How do we acomplish this, well at the TOC we could kidnap Dave Dowell and take him somewhere like central PA, and chain him to a backstop on some ballfield so he understands just how difficult it is for us cold weather guys to get out and practice in January for the TOC.LOL. Just kidding Dave!

#45, LP and lemons,

All good points! All we are saying is in order for the teams that won the TOC Qualifying tournament, to maintain that same roster and avoid cheating, (and let's not kid ourselves, it is cheating),the tournament must be moved up. We already are seeing guys coming on this website touting their availability to teams for the TOC. Now, as long as it is done within the rules, not a problem. When you see this it raises red flags. It makes you start to question the legitamacy of the TOC. Who is going to have the time to sit with the teams origional roster and compare it to their current TOC roster and then try to figure out who is legitimate and who is not. I Know SSUSA does the best that they can to avoid these situations, but when you see these players posting their availability, it does make you think.

The problems with adding players wouldn't be as much of a problem if the TOC were to be held in Nov. . Players move on or up to other teams, cold weather teams do not want to spend the money to travel because they haven't played in 3 mos or so, and can't compete evenly with the warmer weather states who play year round. It's a great tournament and I believe there would be more participation if it were held maybe a week after or a week before the Winter Worlds in Ft. Myers. Just my opinion.

Discussion: Knee Pain

Hey Ross,

I had synvisc injections back in 2006. It did not help me because my arthritis was so severe. It is made to replace the synovial fluid that you have in your joints naturally. The shots are good for around 6 mos.. Big John may have more info to give. I also had unloader braces and they helped some. But since my surgery, Tibial Osteotomy, I need no shots and only wear neoprene braces as well as ibuprofen when I play. But surgery was my last resort after I had exhausted all other remedies. Good Luck. Hey Wagon, you don't have to worry about keeping your mouth closed or running on the balls of your feet when you catch. Hey BG, get you arm done!LOL Happy New Year to All.

Discussion: poll:who would like

My view is that it takes every bit as much athleticism to be a good hitter as it takes to be a good fielder. Those who choose to work on their hitting skills will become better hitters than those who choose not to. The same goes for fielding. And as far as an even game, my question would be what do you consider an even game? If you mean two evenly skilled teams such as two major plus teams playing against each other with the same rules and equipment, then I would say you already have that. But if you mean putting a Major plus team against a lesser skilled team such as a AA team, and making it a fair contest, then I would say it could never happen. If you find yourself in opposition to the senior bats, for whatever reason, you should choose not to play in leagues and tournaments that have them! But to ask those who do desire to use them in leagues and tournaments to change, is a very selfish wish on your part.

Discussion: What it takes to win the world

The High St. Bucs 55 AAA (now Major ) team won 4 major tournaments this year. SSUSA Atlantic Coast Champ., ISSA World Champ., ASA National Champ., ISSA Winter Worlds all of them coming out of the losers bracket. The ASA, we had to play 5 games in a row on Sunday to win, and we did. It takes a group of good ball players who never give up to do it, but it can be done!

Discussion: Its Unanimous - The Best Senior Softball Players Are in California and Florida

Some time ago Bashbro had posted a study on which states had the most players available to them according to the adjoining states rule, and I may be wrong but I thought Pennsylvania was #1. Maybe he could post that again. As far as the best teams,I don't know, but being able to play throughout most of the year helps. Players don't lose interest in the game during the long winters. They stay in playing shape and don't have to gear down in the winter and gear back up in the spring. Most of us in the colder climes would prefer that the TOC be played in November, in the same year that you won the tournament that qualified you to be in the TOC. It's tough for these teams to turn it off throughout Dec. and Jan. and try to go south in Feb. to compete against teams fom warmer climates that have been playing in these months. And maybe that can account for some, but not all, of the reasons why Cali. and Florida teams seem to dominate.

Great thought provoking and informative discussion, good points made by all! No one, except for a very small group of people likes going to war. But sitting down and negotiating a peaceful end or finding a solution to solve the problems of the world with some Two bit dictator, terroist group or a Third World Tyrant, who only care about their own self-interests and not the welfare of their people, isn't happening either. So wars happen, debts rise because of them, and Presidents get blamed for it all!

Joe,

At the beginning of the article here is what is said ;

The government can have a surplus even if it has trillions in debt, but it cannot have a surplus if that debt increased every year. This article is about surplus/deficit, not the debt. However, it analyzes the debt to prove there wasn't a surplus under Clinton.

And then goes on to say that the surplus under the Clinton administration was a myth and then backs it up with facts. Read the facts, then you can decide for yourself as to wether the surplus was real or not.

Wood,
England came to the defense of the colonists, because the French came to the defense of the Indians in the French and Indian War. The debt incurred by England in this war was passed onto the colonists in the form of taxes. This eventually led to the American Revolution. France came to the aid of the colonists during the Revolution, thus incurring huge debts. If any of those countries had said that the cost of freedom is not worth the price you must pay, then the United States of America would not exist now! Some costs you must incur, and some you should not. I disagree with the bailouts. If you or I had a business that was in financial trouble we would have to close shop!

Stick, To me that says it all about socialism. Winston Churchhill once said " If you are under 30 and not a liberal, you have no heart, If you are over 30 and still a liberal, you have no brain". Either we think with our hearts and vote in more socialist programs that will eventually destroy the greatest free market society the world has ever known, ( as the terroists in 911 intended to do )or we think with our brains and keep the free market system alive. By the way, Unions are a perfect example of socialism. They have helped many of average people achieve great success, but they have also destroyed many self-employed hard working Mom and Pop businesses!

Capitalism is a term coined by the Soviets who despised a free market society, while their own people stifled by a government owned government run beaurocracy, craved a free market economy. People want to be free! Free to make their own decisions on their own lives and do not want to be told by their govenment what they can and can not do! 88% of the people in this country have health insurance! 80% are happy with the coverage that they have! Should we mortgage our childrens future and their childrens future to appease the 20% who are unhappy? The economy is not as bleak as is being portayed. Go to the airports, train terminals, look at the highways, there are people going places doing things. Ride down the road there are construction sites where people are busy building new communities. Go to the malls, there are people shopping. Our economy has always had it's ups and downs an always will! But it always rebounds, always! That's not to say there are no problems, there are, but it's not as bad as some would have you believe. When it benefits one side of the political spectrum to make it look as though the country is ready to fold unless we vote in a new governmet run program, they can make it sound like chicken little, the sky is falling, and people panic. And as far as Albert Einstein, I once saw a clip of him swinging a bat. He had no form, and could barely swing the bat! So, I don't put much stock into someone who can't swing a bat anyway.

Socialism is just another word for a Government dependant society! Once people become dependant on their goverment to give them what they want, their demands increase. And when the demands increase the tax burden on the achievers in that society goes up. Therefore taking the incentive to achieve away. Once the incentive to achieve is taken away, the money derived from taxing the achievers eventually dries up, or the achievers find ways to hide their hard earned money. Thus limiting the funds that the government has to pay for the socialistic programs. Think about any large city government, when the economy is doing poorly, cut are made, programs are cut, jobs are lost and people suffer. Now, socialist softball, the first thing to go would be the Ultra II because it would not be fair for those who don't hit homeruns, watching all of those homeruns fly out of the park would be unjust, so the playing field must be leveled! Next, the balls, you would need soft mushy balls that didn't hurt if you took one off the shin. And let's not keep score, don't want anyones feelings to get hurt. Guys, spending all winter honing your skills and keeping in shape would be a thing of the past because we wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of those that don't.And also, why would it be fair for cities governments to put out large ammounts of money to build and maintain softball complexes in their cities, when the vast majority of citizens do not even play softball. Joe, when I read your posts on socialism I can almost hear John Lennon in the backround singing " Imagine", a great song but not a great concept! This post is the opinion of the poster a not intentded to be or is offered as the opinion of Senior Softball.
