Feb. 21 JamesLG 421 posts | OK Folks: We have seen many topics regarding the new HR rule. I would like to see A simple "YES" if you agree with the new rule and "NO" for those who don't. I would just like to see what the majority is on this board. A "NO" meaning you believe a ball over the fence after your allotted number is a single or walk. I for one am a "NO" to the new rule. Thanks: James |
Feb. 21 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | No. The new rule endangers pitchers and infielders needlessly and strongly suggests the presence of other interests than what senior softball players want and need. |
Feb. 21 Babe 2 posts | JamesLG: No. Over the limit endangers the pitchers; no matter how great of a hitter one might be,most everyone will alter their swing once the limit is reached. In most associations: HR's over the limit are only a single, there may be some assoc. that cause the runner to advance a base no matter what base they occupy. So, in most cases: 2 doubles= 1 run 2-3 singles= 1 run Over the limit HR's 4 Hrs= 1 run Babe |
Feb. 22 MaverickAH 58 posts | ABSTAIN Why? Because in all honesty it makes no difference one way or the other to me. I'm going to play the game presented to me either way. I am going to make whatever adjustments to my game that I need to make & adapt. Besides, I've played in leagues with much harsher rules where the arc was 20ft and a HR was a DBO from the moment the ump said, "Play Ball!". |
Feb. 22 Jimmy#7 12 posts | You can ONLY SCORE a certain about of HR's per inning-THEN you flip-MAYBE in the 7th make it a Double-to SPEED thing's up-BUT,then the batter MIGHT HAVE TO HUSSLE-RATHER THAN FLEX TO 1st. |
Feb. 22 Gekle BUilders Men's 50 204 posts | Turning Major plus into AA my answer is NO.So the last two post is that a yes or no.Simple question. |
Feb. 22 QC Softball Men's 55 20 posts | Answer is YES. Our Major plus team averages 3 home runs a game. That means we have to run the bases more and when it gets hot people tire out. Unlimited home runs take that part of softball away. Make the big guys run and play defense and let's see their batting averages drop. I pitch still in young man ball and they have home run limits yet pitchers are not getting beat-up. Oh that's right they can't use U's. Take away the U's and you can have your unlimited home runs. You shouldn't have both. Too many home runs by guys that couldn't hit home runs when they were young. |
Feb. 22 Player25 Men's 55 50 posts | Answer is Yes if you are moving teams into major plus that were not designed/built/have no desire to play there. Answer is no if you let only the teams who were designed/built/have the desire to play there. Still believe a better answer is to change the bat/ball combo to reduce the home runs being hit by those who should not/have seldom if ever hit a home run. |

Feb. 22 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | It's not a simple answer for me. I like the home run but can adjust my swing not to hit them... NO I understand that it should increase the number of Major and Major Plus teams if we restrict the hrs....Yes The problem here is will more player hit up the middle, resulting in the need for a screen or dbo? So, I vote no and yes. |
Feb. 22 ffdonnie Men's 60 137 posts | Yes. We already play by these rules. It works, its the only way we can compete with M+ teams |
Feb. 22 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Donnie, What do you mean works? What do your teammates have to say? Email me at joerinaldi56@yahoo.com so we won't interrupt the thread. |

Feb. 23 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | No, because I don't want to see a home run turned into an out. But I am one of those who has played league softball every year for 56 years and NEVER hit one out. Now I have several times with the Miken! I am opposed to the lively ball/hot bat combo. Lessens my enjoyment because of negative impact on defense, strategy, etc. I don't need the ego boost that some do and can live without the technology-enhanced home run, but I think there are better solutions than to make a home run an out for any reason. |
Feb. 23 Joncon 328 posts | NO Classification should not use HR's as it's only criteria. Limit them to singles if you want to but don't punish me for making good contact once in a while. When the HR's are outs, many player try to go oposite which puts the pitcher at a higher risk. Let them pull the ball over the fence for a long single......them make them go get it. Hey....there's a good idea. Make the player who hit it, get it....immeadiately. Make them walk straight off the field and chase the damn thing. That might help :) |

Feb. 23 marklawr Men's 55 7 posts | No...bad rule for the pitchers. 80% of the time, I go 5-6 hole....I'm 6'4", 230 lbs. and now and then hit a few HR's. After the limit, I'll try to hit it down and go opposite filed. Since I generally only have 6-8 swings a week.... I'm not too good at it. This weekend, went opposite field twice...once successfully...the other time it went at the pitcher....good thing I missed it for an out. Mark OLR Nighthawks #27 |

Feb. 24 batter4u Men's 65 82 posts | NO, hate to think that after all the work I do to hit the ball hard, if I accidently hit it over the fence at the wrong time, it goes aginst me. |
Feb. 24 Husky71 Men's 50 25 posts | So... over 75% of us here don't want this new rule making hrs over an arbitrary limit a DBO.... Are you listening SSUSA?? |
Feb. 24 TGIII Men's 60 106 posts | Yes....Of the 75% that responded in objection to the new HR rule, what is the demographics? I'm a 55 AAA player and I like the rule. Responses should include the age group and division you play in. Let's see if we have a good cross section of responses. Or... are the responses heavily weighted to one age group or division? |
Feb. 24 geezer#6 Men's 70 58 posts | Do you seriously believe the board is going to listen to your/our thoughts and wants on this subject and make changes? I am very doubleful, they make the rules and we must live with them or, you decide ! |
Feb. 24 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | They'd better listen or risk serious injury to their relationship to senior softball. The only thing more praiseworthy than changing to make things better is to change them back when you realize you made a mistake. That's what people who show they care and have character are capable of doing. A chance for SSUSA to define who they are and want to be to us, the senior softball community now and into the future. |
Feb. 24 Mr. Manassas 244 posts | I am 55 major/major plus and it seems to be the only answer to get teams to play up. I am a pitcher and can see the safety aspects of letting teams swing away. But the equipment has made it too easy for some people to hit bombs...I don't see an easy answer to this question. |
Feb. 24 Husky71 Men's 50 25 posts | I am 50 major if that helps... |
Feb. 24 WOW 197 posts | JamesLG Great idea getting this thread started. Lets see if SSUSA will get it. If we keep this going, maybe they will. Keep the replies coming.............. |

Feb. 24 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | ok i have a 3-part answer to this yes for the 2 lower divs. maybe to the major div not sure what thier limit should be no in the major+ div, they should be unlimited. for all you who have said that we never had to do this before(hrs over the fence an out)are lieing, sorry to be blunt about this, but if you have ever played ball before senior and didn't play above A ball, there always has been a limit on hrs in every div of softball A thru E.so i think we should learn to live with the rules put forth |
Feb. 24 QC Softball Men's 55 20 posts | I'm a 55 major plus and still say YES |
Feb. 24 PJ3P Men's 50 94 posts | NO |
Feb. 24 JamesLG 421 posts | I am 55 and play AAA and I am not a big HR hitter. I just very strongly believe if you do everything right as a batter it should not be an out for your team. I also believe winning a game on a DBO is a not what competition is all about. Thanks: James |
Feb. 25 #19 Men's 70 302 posts | Yes...particularly in the lower divisions... there has to be some deterrent to keep teams honest about their rating... hopefully, with a safer ball, this problem will become moot. |
Feb. 25 Jimmy#7 12 posts | Yes-If I play 55AAA--BUT I'm playing 50Major this year SO-NO-NO OUT SINGLE PLEASE |

Feb. 27 JamesLG 421 posts | Well folks: It looks like this thread has about run its coarse. It is not hard to tell what the majority believes. I respect the attempt to equalize the field by making new rules but it seems to me like the Win/Loss record is more of a tale of the tape. If a team sandbags just pull the trigger and move them up. Case Closed. Thank You: James |
