Aug. 24, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: BP/practice Practice/BP can never be underrated. Game swings are important, too. Changing every 5 pitches is good to keep from getting a "BP Head" which is not the same as a game swinging "head". Good question, Robert. |
Aug. 24, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: NCSSA Championship Manteca, Ca. Robert. As ignorant as you can be with your statements about God and people who believe in God to disrrespecting over 2000 terrific men and women of NCSSA you are an identifiable member of our community and you belong with us, one way or another. Mountebank outsiders who have no respect for anyone including themselves, don't. |
Aug. 24, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: I just hit a 677 foot HR You don't get it, Gary. Some site administrators don't, either. We're a community, the senior softball community and we know each other and who each other are over 15 years now and longer. We've seen and played with/against each other for years and still at it. We care about one another, defend one another and recognize and support each other all we can. That's why so many of us use our names on the site. Because we're accountable to and proud of ourselves one to the other. And we don't suffer outsiders and fools with bad intentions very well at all. Get a clue, Lou. |

Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 52 Core Ball Live pitching is absolutely the key as 4x4 stated for a variety of reasons not least of which is the advent of the knuckleball as the pitch de jour up and coming in senior softball. When there's a competing wind the knuckleball will cause anyone trying to under cut it all the time to either miss it completely or pop it up weakly most of the time. Natural eye hand coordination and reflexes when surprised in a fraction of a second right before striking a ball would bring the bat to the center of the ball to maximize the chance to hit it well or at all. And hitting that 52 x 275 ball will punish you rather than reward you for your efforts. A good knuckle ball pitcher with an opposing wind might throw a no hitter in a softball game it would be that hard to hit it that 52 x 275 ball well. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Character And safer can be had in many other ways as Donnie C points out by increasing the arc limits and widening and deepening the rubber, 1 and 1 count, screens and other ways too. Why must it always come at the expense of something that is fundamentally important to our game and that is "pace" and "feel" of hitting a ball hard and well. Donnie. You might say that Robert and I have a debate about points of concern and interest and we can get carried away but Gary C was not concerned about any of it. He lived to antagonize and disparage. That was his stated mantra and goal and how he got as far as he did with little to no redeeming value is a matter of some interest. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Character No one wants you to get killed Robert driving home from BP but we don't put a governor on your engine to make sure you don't go to fast and hurt yourself. I mean this respectfully and thoughtfully. You have good intentions about safety but men need to be men and assumed risk is fundamental to living well and playing a satisfying game of softball. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Character Saying and doing Mark are two different verbs for very good reasons. They refer to two completely different actions. And when you use careful language like "don't foresee" you're making sure just in case it goes differently you're covered because one could say they weren't able to see that well or very clearly at all. There's no bad guys. Just a ton of conflicting interests that need name tags so we can keep track of who's who and who wants/needs what and why so important things don't get lost or stolen. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Earth Quake Hey Harry. I been talking how tough we are out here in California. Maybe now they'll listen :) We get them every day. They're after shocks of bigger ones that have already happened and we do get'em all the time. The big one we had in 89 at the World Series. lasted 15 seconds. That's a honker and very scary. It was said, the first five seconds folks said hey that's an earth quake. The next five seconds they said Wow. It's a big earthquake. The next 5 seconds everyone started praying and asking for it to stop. Very deep rooted traumatic stuff. Lot's of people left SF in the next 6 to 12 months. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Character Easy with all that applause! John. What ball were you hitting with your 44 oz thumper? Do you remember? I would bet 2 universes it wasn't a 44x375 ball or a 52 core 275 ball. C'mon, John. It's the combo that's critical. We have always wanted/expected to play with a lively bat/ball combo no matter if it's the bat or the ball or both that gives us the drive. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Character There can be no reasonable comparison between the results from an elective online survey that is not represented by any true cross section of the population and the much more representative one done by SPA. My understanding is that most won't play and when they do they will not enjoy what they are playing enough and continue to drop out. |
Aug. 23, 2011 einstein | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What do you think? Hey Jeff. That's not what I'm saying. There's NO DOUBT in my mind given all my research and experience and awareness of what is taking place in and around our sport that the great majority of players, as per the SPA survey which many of us participated in, favor not going less than the equipment level we have today in senior ball. |
