Some teams are loaded with players that are exceptional and have a few "so-so" players on the team to fill out the roster for depth. As teams are forced to move up they have to get new players such that they can be competitive. They no longer need the "so-so" player. Just because a team is forced to move up; why is an individual player who is "so-so" player forced to move up to a level in which he is not competitive? Why can't he play in a division in which he is just an average player??? |

It seems to me that with all the live bats out there; asking an umpire to make a batters box should not be a big deal. This is a 1st class tournament. With all the advantages given to the offense; at the meeting couldn't SSUSA ask the umpires to be more receptive to keeping batters in the box??? |

Doesn't work out well for him. Next year he goes back to join a 55 major team and is told he now has a 55 major plus rating. Is this how the system is designed???? |

Team breaks up or player decides to play with his own age. 55 player who has never played major+ is rated as a 55 major+ player. If this is true, it makes no sense. SSUSA please enlighten me. |
| June 28, 2016 tugboat | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: When the dust settled The Roanoke tournament turned out as expected. Some of the real 55AAA dropped out. The real 55AAA teams that stayed in it and competed with the SSUSA 55Major teams that were playing AAA did not do well. The SSUSA 55Major teams finished at the top of the AAA division. Maybe they will move up and play with the rest of the Major teams in Manassas. In my opinion SSUSA has the teams rated pretty much on spot. Hope ISSA does a better job in August. |

High Street, Omega and Sweet played Major along with 10 other teams. Those 3 are Major in Salem, how did 7 of the other teams move down to AAA. I would think you would keep ALL of them in Major or move ALL of them to AAA. What am I missing???? |

With no batters box, there is no such thing as an inside or outside pitch. Simple solution use a tee and remove the pitcher. See where the batter stands if he has to hit off of a tee. |

Does it make it easier for you to hit an inside pitch to the opposite field or back up the middle??? Are you trying to eliminate the impact of pitching??? Batters have every advantage in the game and they are the biggest complainers about rules! Why have a pitcher, why not just hit off a tee, then you can stand wherever you please???? |

Is it really necessary for the batters box to be abused because the umpires don't want to enforce the rule. Not having a chalk batters box is a copout used by the umpires! A bat is 34 inches long and is ready available to draw a line 36 inches wide. 1.5 • BATTER'S BOX The batter's box is the 3-foot by 7-foot area to which the batter is restricted. The lines are considered as being within the batter's box. At least some portion of both feet of the batter must be on the line or within the batter’s box. (See §7.3) 7.3 • BATTING POSITION A. The batter must have at least some portion of both feet on or inside the lines of the batter's box at the start of the pitch. A batter who steps out of the batter’s box at any time during the pitch and then hits the ball, fair or foul, shall be called out. Steps out means touching the ground completely outside of the lines of the batter’s box. (See §1.5) B. The batter must take his position within ten seconds after being directed by the umpire. EFFECT: The umpire will call a strike. No pitch has to be thrown and the ball is dead. C. The batter shall not step directly in front of the catcher to the other batter's box while the pitcher is in position to pitch. EFFECT: The ball is dead, the batter is out and the runners may not advance. 7.3(1) • OBLITERATING THE BATTER’S BOX A batter, in the umpire's judgment, deliberately erasing any portion of the batters box will be called out. A second offense by the same player will result in the player’s ejection from the game. |

ISSA in Norther VA, hosts plenty of tournaments and at $600 - $700 per team the little ribbon and medallion needs to stop. While the tournament is well organized the umpires receive ~$25.00 per game and the average number ist of games played per team is 6. That is $150.00 in umpire fees, throw in $25.00 for balls and $25.00 miscellaneous. That comes to $200.00 per team. With $400 -$500 per team left for profit, I think more than a trinket should be awarded. Don't know how much or what deal they get on the fields, but with the number of teams (100) that they are bringing to the area that need food and lodging; I would not be surprised if the fields are thrown in for free???? |

With the high fees ($500 - $700) that are required to play in tournaments why are us players only getting little trinket medals (ISSA), cheap patches (SPA) and little or nothing in other tournaments? With the vast amount of income the organizations are making; how much longer will us player continue to fall prey to our desires to compete? Should not the tournaments post a prize list before we enter??? |
