Discussion: Morro Bay, Ca tourney

Congradulations on the Morro Bay tourney held this past weekend. Weather in the low 70's(instead of the 100's)-good officals-balanced rankings-excellent balls-grass outfield need some cutting-scorekeeps and scoreboards-good awards. Rules that kept games moving. Teams adjusted with a few questions. BBQ area used to it fullest.
The TD, Ike Pursell from Fresno, listening to the teams request to make his future tourneys even better. Looking forward to your August and Sept. tourneys in cool Morro Bay area and the future tourneys next year on the coast.
Great to see the north and the south teams there to mix it up.
I don't mean to interfere with SSUSA or the NCSSA on there tourneys but thought this kind of senior softball info. also needed to be put out since a lot of neg. info. has been reaching out.

Discussion: Bad idea by SSUSA

What are we getting back SSUSA for endorsing this action? Does this put more monies into the organization? I also agree with the question for those who live within driving distance. Who checked with whom before THIS ACTION WAS TAKEN?

Discussion: Ratings Changes Announcement Timeline

I beg to differ with LVSSA comment by Lecak. The LVSSA has a little more thought in noticing teams that play in their own tourneys. Their TD will change a team who is MJ into AAA of AAA into AA of vise versa in both with recomendation of managers who consistanly play in their tourneys. They do police their tourney and notify teams in the division of the changes so there are no suprises at time of play.

Discussion: LAS VEGAS WINTER WORLDS

I agree to pay that kind of money for this noteable of a tourney, has failure written all over it. We complain but keep on showing up. But tthe number may be declining.
Please show your concern and add to this subject. Reno was great and so was Phoenix but Vegas is declining both officiating and fields,

Discussion: A Question for all teams

I will state again, why not let the tourney directors do their jobs and send their evaluations to the SSUSA. The TD's and their reps are there to see first hand the competition that was set up. I am sure that they are not only their to make money but to balance each division for future tourneys held by them.
Now you have a first hand evaluation. Team managers are able to show their case instead of the SSUSA making decisions based on stats alone. Then if you get moved up its by visual evauation as well as stats with little or no discusion. Take SSUSA out of the picture on this and put it back into the players and teams who support the organization. I'm sure their is more that can be added but this may just be a start. The SSUSA has done what it can but with the true input this may take it out of its blinders and pet favors that it may show.

Discussion: RATINGS WARS

One thing is for sure, this is only the beginning of the issue.
The current rating system is a idea brought about to help the issue. Its not a fix it. Teams winning will move up when falling within the system. Why not try to improve it.
Start to rely on your TD who see players and that want teams to return to be competitive tourneys they put on. We all know that tourneys costs are going up for TD's and players. Trust the input from the TD's and include them as much as 80% into your decisions
One things may be for sure the SSUSA will be amazed at their accuracy in most cases but the TD will take care of the rest.
Can't hurt and maybe thinking outside the box will help.

Discussion: rotator cuff surgery

First of all, throwing arm or catching arm?
Throwning longer, 9 to 12 months. Start playing about the 5th month. Short distant throwning after 5 to 6 months. Chop down hitting during the 5 to 6 month.
Catching arm 4 to 6 months. The healing takes about 8 months.
Remember if you don't strengthen and strart to early and do too much to early you will be back to see the Doctor again. If you can stay off of antiinflamatories. Ice the shoulder as much as possible for no more than 10 minutes after exercises and playing.
Had both done within the last 3 years. No problems playing full out since I was carefull. Remember that when you play and if you are competitve you do things you shouldn't during the healing process.

Discussion: Stike mat issues, can't wait.

With the strike mat being mobile and/or not fixed. Can't wait for the calls by the already confused senior officials. Example of a smart catcher gently kicking the mat toward the field of play in order to get advantage on a force play at home. The plate official is watching the play in the field and would not see a catcher edge the mat toward the field of play. The mat may be just moved by the batter/runner or home plate official, but the advantage of being closer to the play makes for a distinct advantage that smart players will use against the official. It is not defined as a judgement call but the SSUSA and other organizations who adobpt this may need to address it BEFORE IT ESCALATES INTO MORE HEATED ARGUEMENTS. THE ISSUE IS NOT JUST AS SIMPLE AS IT LOOKS AS A RULE CHANGE.

Discussion: moving up

Ike, the consideration should also include sponsered and non sponsered teams. Yes, it makes a major difference especially as you graduate to major and major plus. The non sponsered teams have a huge disadvantage on personnel. As the expenses gets higher the better ballplayers look for sponsered teams and sponsered teams court them. The weakest link may be a .750 hitter that can't play defense.
I agree on the idea of staying put unless you win 3 or 4 major tourneys in a 2 year span as a AA or AAA team. But then you do get older and the younger teams turning to the new age bracket bring more competition. It took a long time to get competitve as a AA or AAA. Let us enjoy it for awhile and not become sacrafical lambs again.

Just incase you are still reading your request. Thurs. league does not start up again until the 13th. They start at 6 pm.
There is another thought if you are available this week end 8and 9.
There is a tourney in Paso Robles and there is a 65 team from here that you would be able to play on. If not them them, Im sure you would fit in anywhere.
Contact Rich Motta at 732-2345 and let him know what you are interested in doing while your here.

Discussion: CALIF CUP

Congrads is order. The bracketing was very good and the officiating was OK. The main issue has to be the fields. Mahany deplorable, infield batter boxes and the football used outfields.
Maidu out field just a tad better than Mahany. The CAL CUP should not be represnted this way next year. Last year the fields were playable at both parks. Injuries were kept to a minimum, only with some luck.
To send that much money in on entry fee and get so little. The infields were never dragged. Just some hand racking and water.
Please let Sac. know your thoughts.

Discussion: Reaper bat ?

Now that the reviews are getting better and better on the ASA Reaper. How long will it be before the ASA includes it on its ban list??
The games played at all Field of Dreams allow only ASA approved bats. But I understand that a few FOD parks are not allowing the Reaper ASA version.

Discussion: Reno Western Nationals

Now here may be one reason why we can't promote other touneys on this sight. Awards have included windbreakers, quality sweat shirts, bat bags, long sleve turtle neck shirts, polo shirts. Most included monagrams of the team logos. Why pay $25-$35 for a T-Shirts , oh yes include motel room, meals and gas. Why not hold raffles and/or use donated gifts. A ring is a nice incentive but if you keep winning a ring tourneys why not have the association start to pick up a larger portion of the cost to upgrade your ring. Now that would be an extra incentive. Just playing competitve softball at our age is even more gratifing and is a great incentive too.
