Discussion: 1 and 1 count

Just played a non-SSUSA tournament with a 1-1 count. I was not a fan before the tourney, but am a fan now. We had no trouble getting to the 7th inning. Yes, I had to swing at some pitches I wouldn't have swung at with a 0-0 count, but it does speed the game up. I also think it lowers scores a little, which is a good thing.

It was a tournament game!

Then the umpire screwed it up. He didn't allow either run to score. But relax, this wasn't an SSUSA tournament.

2nd & 3rd, 1 out. Long fly ball to center. Both runners tag up and score. Defense says runner on 2nd left too early. They appeal and the umpire calls him out. How many runs score? One or two? Won't reveal what the umpire did, yet.

Discussion: When did our generation become such cry babies

The only comment I would add to this discussion is that open innings should be treated differently in stat calculations. When you're losing a game by 12 runs in the top of the 7th and score 10 to lose by 2, that's not a close game in my book. The team that was beating us handily didn't get to bat in the bottom half. So runs scored per (normal) inning should enter into it, along with average open inning runs.

Discussion: 60/65 Major World results

Two years ago I took a picture of the bracket board at BLD on the last day, but then found out I couldn't attach the picture on this board, so I couldn't relay the info.

Does anyone know of a good BP location near Desert Breeze Park in Vegas? Is that park big enough to support BP away from the games?

I took a picture of the board after the Worlds last year, but I couldn't figure out any way to upload it.

Thanks for the shoutout Dave! We always stay in Mesquite regardless, because we feel there's a little more action in the casinos.

Discussion: UP TO DATE TOURNAMENT SCORES

I'm loving those up-to-date reports, too. But it's always good to double-check your work. Enviro-Vac still says 2-2 in seeding games!

Everyone is asking for snapshots of the brackets. I don't see anywhere to post the photo I took of the brackets. Silver Streaks are up big vs. Cen-Tex, so it looks like Silver Streaks and Animals in the finals.

When people ask me if I have a bucket list, I tell them only one. I want to play on an 85-year old team in 16 years.

OZ is right. The catcher can never tag a runner at the plate.

Discussion: Rule question

I looked in my rulebook and can't find anything that covers this. It happened in an ASA league game (I repeat, LEAGUE).
Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Batter takes ball four and the ball bounces back to the backstop. The runner on 2nd forgot there was a runner on 3rd because he had a white shirt on instead of our blue. He takes off for 3rd, so the runner on 3rd takes off for the plate. The catcher picks up the ball and steps on the plate. The umpire called him out to end the inning. Is that the correct call? I thought the ball was dead in softball on a walk (unlike baseball).

Discussion: carrying bat to first base

I found this comment on another thread.

"You can carry it all the way around the bases, as long as you do not interfere with
a play. Just remember it's not a hockey stick......"

Discussion: For 70 and over. 11 players on the field. Like or Dislike

Agree with Jawood. Makes the batter learn to hit to other fields, and more importantly, it lowers the scores, which can get pretty ridiculous.

Cen-Tex double-dipped Arizona Ancients in the 65-Major division of the Winter Worlds.
