A little tip I got from a trainer to hydrate in high humidity. Drink 16 oz. of water two hours before you play. Another 16 oz. before the game and 8 oz everty twenty minutes while playing.
He said you can make your own sport drink. Just add a pinch of sea salt and sugar to a bottle of water.

Mikelmart, I have arthritis also. The big thing is a good orthopedic surgeon,to guide you. A few tips I use recommend by my doctor. Is take four 200 ibuprofen if you have inflammation.. You can also purchase asper cream with lidocaine and apply to your knees and effected joints. Plus go to the orthopedic department of your local hospital and get fitted for orthopedic inserts. They run about $30 dollars and are well worth it and better than what you can buy at the store. You might also want to look into uflexxa shots for your knees,if you havenít already. Hope this helps.

Discussion: Bone On Bone

Cz3114, I had it done two years ago this month. It is holding up fine. I would recommend anyone to discuss this option with their doctor before a knee replacement. After the procedure I didnít see much difference. It took about four weeks ,as I did PT and then I could really see the difference. I could run without an issue..No swelling. I do not wear a brace, but I do wear a sleeve. My doctor told me the same thing. This is what they do before a knee replacement.

Discussion: cortisone shot

Get to a good sports oriented orthopedic surgeon. You play with this condition, you might end up with what is called frozen shoulder. You wonít be able to brush your teeth without pain, let alone play softball. Cortisone only masks the problem. You might be able to get by with cortisone and PT. get to a good doctor.

Discussion: Throwing arm has gone bad.

Not being a doctor, but playing with guys with similar symptoms, sounds more like rotator cuff tear. Get to a good sport orthopedic doctor . You might be getting what is called frozen shoulder.

Discussion: Looking for a Senior League Rule

The league I play in has a very unique rule to address this. You can issue an intentional walk, but the manager just inserts a runner at first and the batter stays at the plate. If a pitcher throws four straight balls the same rule applies.
Now if the pitcher throws a strike ,he can issue an intentional walk with no penalty. That batter must take first. If a pitcher throws three balls, then a strike, then another ball, that batter must take the walk. This stops any by passing of big hitters.

Discussion: Rotator Cuff Surgery or not?

Cuda65, I have been lucky enough to not have had this surgery. I play with many guys who have had it. They all mirror the remarks other players have told you. But the guys I played with are glad after the long and hard PT that they had it done. I do just want to,point out something to you. My wife fell and torn her rotator cuff. She was just going to try a cortisone shot and PT . The surgeon told her if she waited ,because of the damage , she could develop what is called frozen shoulder. They put her in PT while she waited to have the surgery. This was to keep from becoming what he called frozen shoulder. Just a heads up. When you see your physician ask the question about frozen shoulder. Good luck in your endeavor. It is at least a six month recovery time frame.

Discussion: Lower back problems

Armiho211, just a suggestion. I had an injury to my back last year. I hurt what is called the SI joint. I have a great sports oriented orthopedic surgeon and he suggested Chiropractic help. Plus he recommended PT. I have a great PT and chiropractor person. He designed a back strength and stretching program. The chiropractor adjustments helped. In six weeks taking his advice I was as good as new. I now do back strengthening as part of my workout plan.

Discussion: Knee replacement

Ocden, I am like you have had four scopes and the last one they did what is called accu fill. The orth guy has told me the next step would be a replacement. The only concern I see in your post is the doctor told you no more runnng. I play with numerous guys who have had replacements. They all run, maybe not as good, but still run and some are outfielders. Just a suggestion ,I would get another opinion before doing it. Make sure the surgeon is sports oriented. Just some thoughts.

Ask your doctor for a cortisone shot. Lasts about six weeks. Then ask for diclofenac.
