SSUSA,

At the very least, this is a weak response to Sweet P's inquiry. He didn't ask for game schedules, but merely tentative field assignments as you've already done for Reno...which is two months away. Teams are simply trying to coordinate lodging accommodations based on possible playing locations. As an example, if you book at South Point and end up at Shadow Rock, a 20 mile drive each way awaits you. Not good.

C'mon man! I think you can do better by your customer base.

JC,

You're out of luck on this issue...at least for the next 7 to 8 years. I believe that SSUSA has a 10 year agreement and/or contract in place with the Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing organization, and just completed year 2 or 3. The TOC will be held in Florida fir the foreseeable future.

Congratulations to the Desert Dawgs 55 team on winning the TOC for the 55AAA division. Way to go! As a member of the Desert Dawgs 50 team that won the TOC last year...nice going and enjoy.

Gman1,

The PS Invitational Tourney has no roster implications as far as SSUSA is concerned. Don't know if the are any 65 teams, but do know there are at least five 60 teams signed up. We are a full rostered 55 team, and the only 55 team that will be there. Good luck with your search.

Discussion: Any 55 teams playing the Palm Springs Invitational Feb. 15-16?

Shout out to all California, Arizona, Nevada, and other 55 teams!

The So Cal 55 Major team will be playing in the Palm Springs Invitational Senior Softball tournament on February 15-16. Looking to see if any other 55 teams will be going. If less than 4 teams are entered, the tourney will either be cancelled or combined with other age groups, in this case 55's combined with 50's and/or 60's. Come on out to great weather and last years HR rules.

This tourney is the weekend after the SSUSA TOC so I wouldn't expect a couple of teams (Double Play, Desert Dawgs) to be there as they will be playing in the TOC.

Tom,

Sounds like you're looking for a contact for Kamikaze. That team is run by Dan Hall and he can be reached by cell at 310-713-9420 or email at dan.hall@att.net. I think he runs toe 50 team as well as his new Kamikaze 55 team.

I'll give Dan a call and point him to your post.

Good luck

Discussion: players please respond to rule changes

Southernson,

Agree with you whole-heartedly that the two changes are in no way independent. There's no doubt that the mandatory pitching mask rule is a direct result of the new over limit HR DBO rule.

I don't like the rule for any division, particularly for the Major and Major Plus divisions. If you allow players to use the hottest bat/ball combination, what do you expect? Just saying that you shouldn't be penalized for hitting a ball out. Listen, I'm 6' 3" and weigh 225lbs and by no means a regular HR hitter. However, if I square up on a ball it's going out, bottom line. Our 55 Major team has quite a few guys that can hit the ball out. Some games we hit a couple, and some games we hit over the limit...we shouldn't be penalized for that.

What concerns me about the new rules is that strong hitters trying to keep the ball down will be hitting seeds at or through the infield and in the area of the pitchers. We all know certain players that when they come to bat, every infielder moves back, but I guess 70 foot bases is the safety valve there and will take care of this issue.

Bad decision for all, IMO.

Oh yeah, for those of you blasting the Major Plus guys as egomaniacs. C'mon man! Don't we all have egos? Just not at the Major Plus level, LoL. Don't kid yourself fellas, egomaniacs are at every division...even at AA.

Discussion: WINTER WORLDS 60's MAJORS

Steve,

My assessment of the "if" game, our team completely lost it's focus, and DP started hitting. After 3 innings, we're up 15-4. DP scored 16 runs in the next 3 innings to our 4. We hit into double plays in the 4th and 5th innings, scoring only 1 run.

In our open inning trailing 20-19, first hitter...one pitch fly out, second hitter...one pitch fly out, third hitter...second pitch fly ball dropped by OF, next hitter...grounder forcing runner. Game over. Have to get guys to focus better in championship games and....keep you in the Yard.

Great hitting Steve and always great to see you. Congratulations and we'll see you at the next tourney, or as team members on Studs and Duds.

Discussion: sick players at Sunset Park

Let me get this straight, the park facility or SSUSA makes certain there is a 5 gallon jug with drinking water and cups for participants, and some players dip their towels, or in some cases their injured foot in the jug?...WTF! What are we, a bunch of Neanderthals? I guess women calling men pigs has been validated.

Mike,

Very well stated. As senior players, we get to use the hottest bat/ball combination so it boggles the mind that one would consider shaving a senior bat. Hell, shorten the life of your bat for more distance, a poor trade and even more worse decision, in my opinion.

Also, I think the original post alluded more to teams sandbagging at the Huntsman Games than altering bats. I've never played in the Huntsman (hope to next year) but have heard rumblings about sandbagging. I think everyone gets reclassified after the seeding games into two levels (Gold and Silver). Certainly no way to police possible sandbagging.

Andy,
There was an inquiry a couple of days ago. Haven't heard anything since. Since some of the guys will be in Hemet this weekend, perhaps it'll be addressed. I'm also not sure if we've missed the registration deadline.

James,

From a distance from hotel to Shadow Rock, either Boulder Station or Eastside Cannery would be your best bets. Both hotels are priced right and have very nice rooms. As for dining choices, Boulder Station offers much more. Good luck.
