Hey Joe Thanks for the kind words. Gary, I agree with a lot of what you say. I do not like the PPR, Screens and other than to avoid collisions, I would prefer to have 1 Home plate where sliding would be an option for the baserunner. And I can't deny, although I am not a Homerun hitter, that I love the feel of the ball coming off of the bat with the U-II. As a first baseman, it helps to know when you have a runner on first and a Left Hander at the plate, that he is prone to pull the ball down the line by the lean toward foul territory that the runner is doing, to avoid being hit. So if they allowed the runner to stand on the orange bag, it may disguise where the batter generally hits the ball. I too want the game to be as much like the game we played as young men. There are many seniors that still play softball. And many can still play the game very well. Maybe the higher brackets such as Major and Major Plus, since the players are a little more skilled, should have less of these safety rules and be more like the original game. If you like the rules play down, if you don't, try to hook up with a major or major plus team. Just a thought.

Discussion: SSUSA STAFF-Please change a dumb rule

There is no hypocrisy in that post. Some added safety rules was the phrase I used. How is that hypocritical if the vast majority of Senior players choose not to see things your way? I have played Senior Softball since 2002. Not once in any of my league games, or in any of the 15 major tournaments that I play each year, close to 200 games per year, coast to coast, have I ever seen a player seriously injured from the use of senior bats! That does not say that it does not happen, I'm Sure it does. But I have seen players get serously injured from collisions with other players, or fences that they have run into. So do we outlaw fences? Should we all wear foam rubber helmets to protect us from head on collisions with other players? How do we stop those Gary? So the rules that have been implemented are rules that can be put in place to avoid injury. In 1992 I got seriously injured by a ball hit off of a bat, and I needed reconstructive surgery to repair my mouth and facial area. That was long before composite bats were even on the market. The bat used was a Steele's bat. Put your facts on the table, show out of all of the Seniors playing the game today who play in games that allow the use of Senior bats, what the player to injury ratio is. If you can prove that more players are injured each year from the use of Senior bats, than by any other injury that may occur in a Senior Softball game, then it is something that all in Senior Softball should be concerned with. If you can't, and I don't think you can, then I believe it's time to move on to another subject. I am sorry for getting off of the original topic of this post, but we play by Senior Softball rules, which are different than the rules of the game we played growing up. If you don't like the rules that Senior Softball uses, don't play!

It is my opinion that Senior Softball and the rules that govern Senior Softball, should not now nor ever should have been compared to the rules of the game of softball that we all grew up playing. I believe Senior Softball, and the rules that govern it was brought about by seniors, who wanted to continue to play a brand of softball, as close to the game that we grew up playing, but with some added safety rules. So, while Senior Softball allows Men and Women over the age of 50 to still enjoy a game that they grew up playing, and do not wish to stop doing, it is NOT the same game, and does not have the same rules!

Hey Harry,

Maybe you get those toxins shoveling snow. It hasn't snowed in the past like it did this year, no toxins in the past couple of years. Alot of snow this year, and you've got toxins. May be just a coincidence, but it could be from all of that shoveling. You never know.

Webbie25,

I have had a wedge put in my knee. It was somewhat painful, and I was on crutches around 10 weeks after surgery. So it's something to do in say November, so you will be ready to play by April. The 1st year I played after surgery my knee would swell up after games, and there was pain. The next year, last year, I was running and playing as well as I ever had prior to knee problems. My Dr. said that I could run on it for the next 15 years or more. I am glad that I had this done as opposed to replacement because there are no parts to be worn out. While the recovery period post surgery is somewhat longer, the results are outstanding.

Congratulations to Team Canada on the Gold medal win! Great game, great Olympics. As the Baseball players report to spring training and March Madness is around the corner it's only a matter of time before we're all out playing our game, SOFTBALL.

It was a very good game, Canada had something like 36 shots on goal to the USA's 19. Miller was outstanding in the goal last night. You folks from Vancouver should be very proud to live in a city as Beatiful as Vancouver. And also of the great job they have done with the Olympics.

Thanks Harry, I did see those and let Hubbe know that they were there. He had some good shots of you also, as well as the rest of your team. Jack does a great job. And as far as Ross goes, he must not have seen Jack when he was taking those pictures because he would have stood in front of the camera, just like he did with those other pictures. The snow is melting fast Harry, it won't be long now!

I sure don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think either of them are leaving HSB. At least I hope not anyway. And as far as the thaw, I'm right there with you on that. I tried to hand my wife the shovel and grabbed my shoulder, and she said " you're not Harry, and I'm not shoveling". Come on Springtime!

Hey Harry,
I am glad you guys treated Ross so good, because if you didn't we would have to hear him whine about it until June. On our team, he is the manager's favorite, he can do no wrong. LOL
Hey Paco, after Ross roomed with you it took him 3 weeks to stop calling his wife Paco, what's up with that?

I'm sorry to say Jack that my team was snowed in up here in Maryland. But a few on our team that did make it were allowed to play for another team that was short a few guys due to the weather. And yes you did get pictures of them. And I thank you for the service that you provide.

With well over 200 teams eligible to play in the TOC, it would not be a reach to believe that you could have 150 teams at the TOC and another 150 teams at the Winter Worlds. If the TOC were held in NOV., barring injuries, the rosters should remain intact. Teams playing in the Winter Worlds already can use the next years roster. It just makes sense to me to switch.

No Paco, we are not scheduled to play until either the Snoball in Olney or one of RB's one day tournaments in Manassas. I know that the nickname Dirty is taken by another on this board but you are the one and only Dirty on the field of play. There is no one that dives for more balls ( maybe except for Gerry ) than you my man! All the best to you this year and I will see you soon.

Sorry Bob50 for getting a little off track of your origional post. With all of the different rules in the other organizations, bats, height of pitch, whatever, I believe it may cause some problems

Maybe one thing that could be done is that after the teams win the TOC qualifier, if they get bumped up and changed their roster because of the bump up, then they should be allowed to bring their current roster and play at the level they were bumped up to. That way there is no scrambling to get back the players that have since moved on.

Discussion: How to expand TOC participation

We have all talked about this subject for some time. And SSUSA, because of, in their words "contractual obligations" is unwilling to bend on this one. The current time in which the TOC is held now causes more problems for SSUSA, and the teams and players, than the contractual obligations do. I have been told by SSUSA, that the players must be willing to accept the TOC in it's current time slot, because it is not going to change! If rosters cannot remain intact because of injuries or players decide to move on, that causes problems. Weather causes problems, as was expierienced by several teams who worked hard so that they could attend this years event, only to be snowed in. If you ( SSUSA) truly want to crown a champion of all champions, then I say move the TOC to a time when the rosters are still intact. Then after the TOC, players and teams can eliminate any of these concerns and move on!
