Discussion: DEFENSIVE STRATEGY FOR FIFTH INFIELDER

Isn't a 5 man infield (along with a 4 man outfield) the norm after reaching 70?

I would like to see the pool games meaning something more than just practice. As JT25 mentioned, giving the higher seeded team home team would accomplish that.

Discussion: Best ball in Hot Weather

Response is I agree with you. Played in Lacey WA. this weekend in 85 degree heat which is very unusual this time of year up here. Mush ball tourney with the exception of the night games on Saturday. Rock probably too hot...Baden Fire a good compromise. The stote is a good ball in the cool weather which is the case most of the time for us.

Discussion: RENO WEATHER

I think about 3 years ago we played in a snowstorm at Golden Eagle. Couldn't wait until we got upstairs to the restaurant/bar! About 8-9 years ago we played somewhere in the Reno area (before Golden Eagle was built) and it was around 100 degrees. Both on Memorial Day weekend. Anything possible!

Discussion: 5 runs or 11 fielders

I have never understood how a team can feel good about "winning" these types of games when in real score they did not really win if the differential is less than 5 runs. The fact that teams can only score 5 runs an inning (7 in M+) IS the equalizer!

I don't have a problem with equalizers but it should be something that's EARNED, not gifted, such as the opportunity to actually score 1 extra run an inning for the lower classified team or possibly only allowing the higher classified team to score 4 an inning.

With the 11 man defense, you at least are earning your equalizer by having to make a play if the ball is hit to a defender.

DC, I think the state you are based out of is determined by where the majority of your roster lives. If it wasn't that way, you'd only see teams from a few states.

Maine does get the shaft, if there are even any teams up there.

Discussion: 50 MAJOR & MAJOR PLUS COMBINED

The one-up rule is the best thing with no dbo's, it's so simple and fair! Didn't know they only played 65' bases, 70' brings more defense into play.

A new low in bat durability? Brand new Macenko knob comes off in 4 swings today. Also had one come off in 20 swings last Sunday. Can these be glued back on or they toast already?

Discussion: So the question was....how to get more teams to play Major Plus

I used to think that combining Major and Major+ was the way to go. I no longer think this and the biggest reason is when they opened up the bordering states a couple of years ago to allow 2 players from outside them, they made it even more difficult for the Major teams to compete. We still see Major teams play Major+ teams from time to time in local tournaments, but how are they expected to compete against them when they have different roster rules?

Now I guess you can say to just open up the roster rules to the Major teams also, but that costs money that most Major teams don't have. Major+ is the best of the best and as the case was years ago in our youth, they didn't have very many teams either but they did have the money!

Let the Major+ teams play unlimited everything and have it voluntary as to whether a team wants to play that kind of softball, some will. If they want to move down to Major, they can but they would have to play Major playing and roster rules, maybe even a bit more restrictive to try to keep Major+ teams from wanting to move down. This may not be exactly what Tim's question originally was but I think this is the way to go rather than forcing teams to play where they don't really want to.

Discussion: How to get more teams willing to play in the Major-plus division

I see what you're saying, FOFO, but wouldn't that make a Major team not what to get moved up even more?

I would say just make Major-plus unlimited rules in everything ... HR's, runs per inning, time limit and players outside the borders. Just don't make Major teams move up to that division providing they play with HR limits, runs per inning limits, time limits and no players outside their bordering state.

Discussion: RENEW ONLINE

When forming a roster online, some of the common last names like Jones, Smith, Hill, etc have only so many listed players because of the number of them. Is there a continuation of that list somewhere (a second page), I don't see it?

Regarding the staff's suggestions to maximize playing time ... "Have the official game card filled out and exchange with the opponent early". Do the umpires have all the cards that they'll be working or are they at the check in area?. Many times the umpires will give these out right before game time and we need to get them earlier, especially if we are the one making out the lineup and trying to get ready to play a game.

Discussion: Plantar Fasciitis

Thank you everyone for the suggestions, a lot of good stuff here. I've tried some of them over the weekend. rtaven, there is an area slightly from the middle of my heel that hurts the most when I press on it. The pain lessens as I move away from that spot. The arch doesn't hurt at all, just the heel.
