Discussion: The "ROCK SOFTBALL"

The Rock does fly further and gets there faster as anyone who plays in Vegas a couple of times a year will attest to. More Home Runs were being hit in Phoenix this past weekend as even Dave (Dbax) hit one out and that's a rare occurrence. Congrats on winning 60M Dave.

Discussion: Huntsman Schedule

Dave, I hope you can work it out with an online Scoring website. I know you'll make a lot of senior softball players happy when they can see daily updated scores from the big tournaments. Winter Nationals and Winter Worlds are right around the corner. Like Dan mentioned above, Huntsman is using QuickScores this year and although it's not the 600+ teams we had for Worlds, they do have 350 teams competing over 2 weeks.
Good Luck,
Bruce

If SSUSA fixed the message board to allow attaching pictures to a post then we all could take a picture of the tournament board at your field at the end of the day and post it here and everyone could see the scores each day. How hard would that be Dave or STAFF?

Discussion: Bad experience for a Class Tournament - Worlds

Marcster, it is a big deal, should we play by some of the rules only when a play is being made? That play was the outcome of the game. There's a huge difference in remaining in the winners bracket and being knocked down to the losers bracket, that's the big deal. Congrats on winning the division.

Discussion: Bad experience for a Class Tournament - Worlds

I donít post a lot and I donít complain but I have to this time. We played a winners bracket game in 55AAA at Lorenzi park on Sat night. We were ahead in the open inning, other team was home and batting, we had 2 outs and they had the winning run on 1st base. The batter hits the LC gap, I went out for the cutoff, the guy from 1st was trying to score. I couldnít pick the throw clean and it bounced by me, I turned around and the runner was so excited to score the winning run that he slid head first over the scoring line. The umpire in his wisdom had decided the game was over before it was actually over and turned his back to the play before the runner scored and walked to the fence so he didnít see the slide and couldnít call him out. That should have been the 3rd out and we should have played an extra inning. We asked for the TD but the umpire said he wouldnít call him and the game was over. By the time we got the TD to the field, the umpire and the entire other team had left the field and there was nothing the TD could do. We pay $745 for this Tournament and we get umpires like this.

Discussion: Advice

Softballs22, I play SS on a 60M team and although you do have more time at SS than 3rd, the balls hit at you from a good tournament team will get to you much quicker than what you are used to in league play. Another tip, with 70 ft bases, 1st to 3rd and 2nd to home isn't automatic like it is in league. The outfield arm on tournament teams will be much better than what you've seen in your league. Most important, have fun, enjoy it, we get to play a kids games at our age.

We Vote, I'll send out tournament stats Sunday night, give the guys a day or two to vote and count them up. Depending on how many All Tournament Slots we get, that's who gets them. It seams to work so far.

Discussion: flip flop and one up in league play

Bruce, in our league play we play 2 innings in the field at a time and then bat 2 innings until the open. That does speed up the game.

Discussion: play for more teams

fisherman, you can play for the 70's team but not the 75s. You can only be on 1 SSUSA roster in an age group so you can play on 1 75 team, 1 70s team and a 65 team if you want but not 2 different 75 teams. Hope this helps.

Discussion: Tournament scheduling software

Staff or anyone else, I'm looking for software to run a local tournament. I remember an old post by Staff or Dave that listed what SSUSA uses but I can't find it. Also what tournament software are you other tournament directors using to run local tournaments.
Thanks,
Bruce

Discussion: Use a plate to touch to score, over crossing a line

Thunder, I've played both and the main reason to put the runner out away from the plate in senior ball, while scoring, is to avoid any collisions at home plate. The problem with a plate is if there's a throw into home and it's wide and takes the catcher near the scoring plate there's potential for a collision. With a line the runner can avoid the catcher by running a little wider. Another thing I didn't like about a plate is in the morning when it's cool the plate gets a little slippery.

RR, who have you played with the last couple of years? I play on a 60 Major team out of Phoenix and we're looking for a player or two to add our 2016 roster.
Thanks,

Discussion: TEAM ROSTER

Benjie, The manager needs to have a team account with a password, contact Sacramento to set that up. You then login, go to your team page, pay your $35 to register the team for 2016 and then you'll be able to build your roster for 2016. Hope this helps,

Discussion: Foot placement in batter's box before pitch

Semmy, look on page 94 of the SSUSA rule book, it gives the dimensions and placement of the strike mat and the batter's box. You have 3ft and 3.5in in front of home plate to hit the ball. That's enough room if you're in the front of the box. You could add a little more room since only your heel has to be in contact with the line.
