I am sure Joe meant no harm to boston's situation. He just tends to digress to his favorite senior softball causes.

And 'friend' is a bit strong. I have never met Joe, and if you ask those who have been around here longer you would hear that Joe and I have had heated and at times vicious disagreements over things.

Like I said elsewhere I think he mellowed some, I started seeing a few of his points, and now we are quite civil if not friendly to each other.

Agreed. Good hitters will adjust, and the others will continue to look for even more special bats to use to compensate. :)

The problem is not 1-1 count v. 0-0, it is the quality of pitching. A good pitcher will ensure the there are not 6 balls pitched per AB, and will keep the pace of the game moving.

The 1-1 count just covers for bad pitching.

My only point was it was sounding like some were using this as an opportunity to get up on a soapbox and blabber about how winning and competition are not important, only making friends and having fun (not ture). And that there are more important things in life (not sure anyone is arguing against that).

Of course his grandson was of paramount importance to him at that point, and made the tournament rather trivial. It would have done that to all of us.

We all know and understand there are things more important than the games we play. Heck, there is almost always something more important than most everything we do.

But, given all that, there is still some reason why we have scoreboards, league standings, tournament brackets, and awards. I am sure Herm Edwards knows there is more to life than winning, but that does not diminish the validity of what he said.

mad dog, I can see that, though almost by definition the outfielders should be the best conditioned of the players. But yes I can see how that adds up.

However, you use the extreme to make your case. Most senior games played are not part of 4-5 games a day. Some yes, but I am not so sure about all.

If the only purpose is to speed up the game, have guys show some hustle on and off the field. Hustle should be an expectation anyway, not a surprise.

I can certainly understand hyping this bat from a durability perspective if it is indeed more durable, but to hit "laser-like line drives" largely because of the bat makes you feel better about yourselves how?

So it is just another tournament? Nothing wrong with that, but doesn't sound like anything particularly significant or special.

I would think about going to worlds, if it was truly that. But sure does not sound like it. Again, just sounds like any other tournament.

You really think a 'barely good' team belongs in a "Worlds"????? Do you know what Worlds is supposed to mean?

I guess that means maybe the Browns will get invited to the Super Bowl. :)

You have no clue! :(

I still think, at the end of the day, well over half the bats in any dugout will be Ultra 2s.

#6, if a team is a 'barely good AA team' what are they even doing at a "World" tourament? Being barely good at the lowest level certainly does not merit inclusion in any kind of a credible world tournament.

Just makes NO sense at all.

Rightrj, I am assuming you do realize that if you don't like what any of us post you have the option NOT to read it.

Simply exercise that option.

Discussion: anyone use a pitcher screen in league play

Ray, from talking to some guys at Stafford I get the impression that the screen could be there as long as Shelly wants to pitch. But, I suppose, who knows?

frampton, I agree completely about the 1-1 count. Good pitching will get the bat off the batter's shoulder.

If he is up there looking at a lot of pitches, look at the pitcher.

Help me out here. Back in the day:

MUCH larger tournaments.
NO 1-1 count.
NO runs/inning limits.
NO time limits.
NO problems or complaints.

At least that is how we were playing tournaments in Ohio and the neighboring states.

Discussion: Elbow brace

Jewelry and braces are seperate issues. As an example, my daughter played high school soccer and now plays in college. They cannot wear jewelry, but braces are clearly permitted.

One is necessary in probably all cases, the other is not.

The "Heartland" is now its own nation, too????

My gosh, I feel like the USA has turned into the old Soviet Union. Been split up into a bunch of "nations".
