Feb. 17, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: BBQ? Bruce, I live in SoCal, so BBQ is only available at the franchise places. Friday's , Chili's so on and so on. It's a BBQ wasteland. Only good Mom and Pop's we have here are our great Mexican spots. My team does make a trip to Central California(Santa Maria)to play in a tourney with the only goal to eat at a steak and BBQ place named Jocko's in Nipomo,Ca. Great place! Santa Maria even allows big BBQs(large drum) on one of the main drags. The team usually looks for a BBQ place when we travel. I realize now all I have to do is get on the board and should get a good spot. Talking food never gets old. |

Feb. 16, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Pitcher Protect - LARGE GLOVE 4x4 I found a Rawlings that's light and has decent padding. RS1408-14 inch, found it at Big 5 of all places. A glove may seem like an unnecessary piece of equipment, but playing with bare hands really hurts. Anyone know of a 14 inch 1st baseman glove? |
Feb. 11, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Screens and Sun HJ, Thanks for the science lesson. The whining stops here. Softballer,I may need a helmet. mad dog, Reno,Reno,Reno! |
Feb. 9, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Screens and Sun Tommy, and guys Thanks for the info, I just want the tournament directors to see that low sun is a problem and maybe plan for players not having to deal with it. SSUSA,what will your policy be? |
Feb. 8, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Screens and Sun #19, I'm not trying to change the game. But, I have yet to see a TD delay a tourney game for low sun. Not for hitters or pitchers. I'm interested in looking into options most can agree on,if it's an idea that catches on so be it. Do they suspend games in Texas? What's the SOP? Has this ever been a problem for your pitchers? If you're at TOC,Sunday afternoon, do you forfeit to make a flight? I'd like to stop games also, but does this work for everybody? |
Feb. 8, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Screens and Sun Looks like a slow day,I have a topic. Can we discuss using screens when the Sun is low early morning or evening? We had a game in Anaheim late last Saturday 3:30- 4 pm and the sun was in both pitchers eyes, seemed like a good time for a screen. I 'm wondering if you could get both managers and the TD to agree, you could use a Playsafe? I pitch, don't believe in the DBO, but think this is a safety issue that should be addressed. I wouldn't make hitting the screen an out,but a strike on the hitter. I don't know what I would do on strike three. We have a couple of fields where this is a problem in SoCal(Menifee/Anaheim). Comments? |
Jan. 28, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ROCK N RENO CUP- QUESTION Andy's right, from SoCal Southwest's the best. This is a great tourney. We stay at the Sands Hotel casino in downtown. Maybe $60 a night for a double, big rooms, good pool area. Walking distance to all the bigger casinos. If you play at the turf complex, it's a real treat. Other fields around town and in Carson City(30 minutes south) are decent. Weather is a plus that time of year 70/75. I would encourage you and the East coast teams to go you won't be disappointed. It's our favorite tourney. Pieman? Merchants? TNT?Texas Legends ? |
Jan. 26, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: FHC Brian, Sissies don't pitch. I admire anyone who does it. Like I said before the net we bought was the best investment the team has made. Hope to play against your team someday. Good luck this year. John |
Jan. 26, 2009 OTE24 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: FHC Brian, You've laid out the problem, but what's the solution? I agree no one should have to pitch into a 8 am or 5 pm sun, and the net is the best option, but I can't see most players agreeing to the net full time. I pitch also and appreciate the apologies from hitters, but I assume every batter is going to try and hit the ball up the middle. I said before that 3rd basemen face almost as much danger,we would never consider putting a net over there. I pride myself on my defense and it does help the team when I can plug the middle, but the danger is there for any infielder. If teams think you're a hole they're going to drive the ball through. A possible solution,if managers agree, use the net. But be prepared for the guys that will not use it. The only other option is for pitchers to work on their game(taking balls, learning how to set yourself) or don't pitch. Too many guys deliver the ball and just stand there, who's fault is that? My two cents, have a great year-have fun-be safe. P.S. Every team should buy a net for BP!(Playsafe's the best, $300 my team has ever spent). |

Dec. 30, 2008 OTE24 | Topic: Product review Discussion: What is the best single wall bat. Redlines the best, but tough to find. if you're playing Joes Rodgers/Long Beach it won't matter. Small park. Demarini's UW are the bat of choice. |
Dec. 22, 2008 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: RULE CHANGES...COMMENTS Andy, Those mounds in front do cause problems. They're are my biggest fear on the mound. I try to get some of dirt on them, but I'm sure it has little effect. take care ,get healthy, see you next year. John |
Dec. 19, 2008 OTE24 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: rule changes Hit wherever you want. The middle is part of the field. I'll never get hit standing in the pitchers box because I'm backpeddling like Ali. Float like a butterfly, never get stung by the bee. Maybe they'll make the box 2x30 feet! Dennis- miss having you around(50/50) Leftie- Loved the World Championship Fungo comment, might be the next big thing. |
