July 7, 2018 olie04 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Speed up game If everyone on the defensive switch lightly jogged off the field, that would help speed the game up. If your abilities or desire have digressed to the point where walking off the field, or to your defensive position is your only option, then limit yourself to an infield position. We the players have more control over speeding up the game this way. |
Dec. 15, 2014 olie04 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Prayers for Steve Roeder My thoughts and prayers are occupied by the unfortunate news of Steve's condition. A complete and swift recovery is what I am praying for. Bless Steve's family and comfort to them during this trying time. Ollie Oliverson. |
May 4, 2014 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Bat Makers Miken is the most spoken word as it relates to senior bats. Constant comparison of any bat quickly turns the conversation to "How does it compare to the Miken" My opinion however is any senior bat put in the hands of a confident hitter is a winner. Don't overthink your choice. |
March 24, 2014 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Code of Ethics @ Mesquite SSUSA Spring World Championships Allegations without names does not expose this incident you have claimed. Our society seems to choose not to get involved in rightfully naming those involved for fear of retaliation. If this alleged team has players acting out and violating the Code of Ethics, then tell others. This may be a pattern of behavior that needs immediate attention from SSUSA. Don't be intimidated by the Bully, put a name and a team behind the behavior, there just might be another account of the actual events. If this situation is true I hope you and your un named team dont have to suffer through another game with these kind of alleged behaviors. Olie Oliverson GSC 50 Major+ |
March 21, 2014 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Code of Ethics @ Mesquite SSUSA Spring World Championships Distance, speed of the ball being hit through holes, gaps in the outfield, anyway you want to put it, the Ambush I have is a dud. I am just passing this info on for others to be aware of. My original posts on this bats performance were written over a year ago. Nothing has changed. I am glad there is an application for this bat in senior softball, for me having it compared to and used in the same sentence as other top performing senior bats is a marketing ploy by those who do. Once again for those who will take my post as an attack, this is regarding MY experience with MY Ambush. Thank you. Olie Oliverson GSC 50 Major Plus 801-682-2151 |
March 20, 2014 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Code of Ethics @ Mesquite SSUSA Spring World Championships The Ambush I have is the worst senior bat I have ever had. It is similar to any USSSA bat in distance. It does have very good durability. I bought one the first year they came out. It never performed as advertised. It has never broken and is a practice bat only. I would never use it in a game. My experience with this bat is I have a dud. Very small sweet spot. I play Major Plus 50 and have never seen someone swinging an Ambush during a game. Olie Oliverson GSC 50 Major Plus. |
Feb. 24, 2014 olie04 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How do you get fit? Everyone seems to be looking for the product, be it bats, gloves, cleats, supplements that will make you a better ball player. This makes the market ripe for scams and fraudulent products aimed at getting deep into your pockets. I am assuming most people on this board are in the age group of 40-90 years of age. Without trying to address every issue that could be contained in our societies need for success with little effort,I am only going to cover fitness. First of all understand Genetics. Humans DNA dictates what physical attributes we will possess as we mature. People with a majority of fast twitch muscle fiber will be better at quick short burst activity. Those with a majority of slow twitch muscle fiber will be better suited to handle endurance or long functioning activity. You can't build more fast twitch or slow twitch muscle. You are born with what you have. You can train to recruit more use from what you already have. Thus you are not going to become a track star or be able to produce a cannon arm simply by doing some specific exercise. You can show improvement but nothing overly dramatic. At our age the best thing you can do is be consistent in three areas of fitness. Resistence training,Cardio training, and Stretching. Resistance training(progressive weight training) will strenghten the muscle and connective tissue(ligaments, tendons, bone density) Cardio training will increase the hearts ability to function during an elevated level of activity. Stetching the muscles, tendons and ligaments before, during and after vigorous activity increase our range of motion. It also increases the bodys ability to stave off injuries due to over extension of joints, muscles during sporting events,(falls, collisions, hyperextending joints). Do not over do your training. Rest over 50 is crucial to your recovery. I have found that training each muscle group once a week is plenty. keep your heart rate around 65% of its maximum, or for a male around 55 about 130 bpm. limit your rest to 30-45 seconds between sets. 2 days on,one day off,2 on, two off, is a great schedule for 50 and over. Good luck and be consistent. If it was easy, everyone would be in great shape. |

Dec. 11, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Why Not Have A Players Committee Of Real Players To Over See The Rules SSUSA lets 11 people, (12 if a tie) who are affiliated with SSUSA, make rule changes that appear to only benefit the needs of SSUSA umpires, tournament directors, (who are the majority of voting persons). Sounds like changes are made with SSUSA and their needs being the priority rather than the thousands of players that comprise the customers of SSUSA. How can 12 people possibly know what the majority wants? The decision to change the HR rule to DBO's is an economic choice made by the dictators for selfish reasons. Any other attempt to justify it is a flat out unethical lie. Thanks for the great customer service you special 12 have meted out. Kim R. Oliverson (Ollie) |
Dec. 3, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Looking for a 50 Major + team Stick8, I just received word from Rev that they are going to have two out of area players once again. That being said, I am back on the team. I look forward to many more battles against your OKI team. You guys are a great bunch of players, and more importantly, an even better group of gentlemen. Dec. 2, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Looking for a 50 Major + team stick8, there is still going to be a GSC 50 team as far as I know. I am not in there future plans however. |

July 18, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Major Plus Tim, I can only gain perception from your post based upon my own frame of reference. I arrive at my assumptions from that. Keep fighting towards the changes you desire. Even Curt Flood saw his battle become a reality. Hope too see you in Manteca with all the other 50major + players. P.S. scrolling is not non productive, it fine tunes my index fingers sensitivity:-) |
July 17, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Major Plus Tim, the mans time was obviously productive since his original intent was to have his beard tied into a bow. He achieved this. The intent of changing M+ by discussing it ad nausium by the same few voices has not resulted in any changes that have made major plus thrive. I don't mean to take away your feeling of productivity regarding yours, or anyones posts. Hope you and anyone else that thinks M+ is in need of change, finds what they are searching for. I come from a state where there is no M+ (Utah). Maybe my perception is tainted. My opinion on why there are so few teams in M+ is simple. There are very few players who can compete, want to compete, and have the money to compete at that level. Thanks for your input Tim. |
July 17, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Major Plus My opinion, It appears to me that the same people on this board complaining about M+ are the same ones complaining about most topics on here. It is fine to express your opinion but how about posting something positive towards Senior softball. I don't hear the M+ players from OKI, Nazzarino, Gods Sports Company,Northwest Legends complaining. Until the vast majority speak up for change, it will not happen. Seems to me it is the lower division players who complain the most....Why?, You can form your own opinion on that. I love this game and whatever the rules are,and as long as everyone has to adhere to them, then have fun. Life is far to short to spend the majority of your time focusing on trivial, non productive behavior. Spread the love between the chauked lines, it truly does feel good. March 12, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Monsta Athletics Senior Bats Clean up, What do you look like? Where do you live? Are you male or female? What diretion does your front door face? How large is your driveway? How many children do you have? What team do you play for? You are not identified on your profile so do you really exist. Have you paid for a bat from Steve and not received it? When his bat is done and for sale and your order has been delayed, then maybe your previous post would have some merit. cal50 is just stating facts as he knows them. Don't kill the messenger. He is known by many on this board, Are you? |
March 11, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Talk regarding illegal bats Swing, I could not agree more. Tell Joe Rinaldi I said hello next time you see him. He has amazed me many times while taking B.P. with him. Tell him Mike Burbank is doing very well and said hello as too. Ollie. |
March 11, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Monsta Athletics Senior Bats HJ, 3 or 4 years ago the company now known as GSC(God's sports Company) did not exist. You are referring to GSC, Gates Sports Company. Two different owners, Steve Mckinly for God's Sports , and Bill Gately for GSC (Gates). Steve has never offered his bat for sale yet. He is doing it the right way, attempting to manufacture a product that will perform and offer a warranty. This has shown to be an arduous task. When the formula is right(prototypes reflect the quality required)they will be offered to the general public. This of course is contingent upon receiving a Senior affilliation stamp of approval. So by all means keep your nickel until you can exchange it towards a bat,if you so choose. And as far as using the word "God" in a name of a company, just think of it as an acronym for "Got one done" and liken it to the first bat off the assembly line. Ollie. |
March 11, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Talk regarding illegal bats Swing,I can appreciate and understand your not wanting to "Rat them out" that is a personal choice. I don't look at it as "not my job" I get paid for a job. This is my hobby. I just have an issue with grown men who feel so inferior in their abilities or want to be a big fish in a little pond, that cheating to gain some advantage in a game of softball is required. Look me up at a tournament this year, then maybe you can give me some names. Thanks swing, your opinion on this board has merit to me. Ollie. |
March 11, 2013 olie04 | Topic: Bats Discussion: Talk regarding illegal bats In reading all of these posts I arrive at the conclusion that no one actually knows of anyone who is using or has used a Senior bat that SSUSA would ban. I base this on the fact not even one persons name being mentioned as an offender. Maybe people don't want to falsly accuse on this message board and suffer the consequences or maybe it is truely only speculation. Can you imagine someone being found guilty in our society without any evidence? Where is the evidence of altered bats, or more importantly, how do you find evidence of an altered bat. I for one will not point fingers and speculate someone is doing something illegal unless It can be proved. For all who claim they have seen many illegal bats being used, and even teammates claiming they are using them, why not put a name to an offender. We don't need cheaters in our game. I have no problem approaching someone (If I know their name and who they play for), and asking them about illegal bat issues. Every post given has been very much appreciated. Ollie Oliverson #10 GSC |
