wagon487 - to answer you're question, i don't have an answer. i come to play ball no matter what division we're in. i really don't know the reason behind us being major in that tournament, although i heard that a couple of teams were classified major in salem yet are major+ in ssusa.

we were missing our pitcher, 1B, 3B, RC and DH .... that made it tough.

guys - i apologize to all the teams in the 50 major division - i was very disappointed in the fact that we couldn't field our regular team for this tournament. we only had 6 starters able to make the trip - and i know we didn't put our best foot forward not only for us, but for the great competition that was down there as well. at this point we can only wonder "what if" - congrats to ims dogs, kaysons's grill, metro stars and the rest of the teams that competed this past weekend. btw: for the guys in the dugout for metro stars who wanted to check my id - yes i am 50, and hopefully i'll still be running like this for years to come - but thanks for the compliment made me feel young again if only for a moment.

amr 50 major made it to the championship game, but passed since it was about a 4 hour wait (game time probably would have been around 8-8:30pm) to finally play. we also had some guys that had to travel home and with it being memorial day weekend they would have gotten home incredibly late. other than that, don't know who eventually played in the championship game.

Discussion: 300 + FIELD TAKE

as an outfielder myself, and i may be, along with a few others an exception to the rule. i played at the winter nationals in naples and i loved the 325 ft. fences. not only did it allow me to run down more fly balls in the outfield, especially the gaps (here's the exception part - i still have been blessed with great speed even at 50, play in a premier league with kids 1/2 my age, and play cf on my church team, we play a 5 man infield and 3 man outfield, and play in a very competetive local open league). all that aside, i think 325 should be the standard in any league. with the advancment in bats and balls for the most part i don't think 300 ft fields are logical anymore. i do understand it's difficult for most if not all complexes (obviously $$$$) to accomodate 325 ft fences. but i have to admit it was a blast running around that expanded outfield. one side note, for the most part i think the true hr hitters will still hit them out. but for all you others on 325 at least i know i can run them down. for all you southern and west coast guys, how cool is it that you have such good weather. i'm heading down to cincinnati with my premier team next weekend for our 1st tournament. weather outlook 30-35 with snow flurries, but i'm happy to be playing, it's just @ my age i'll have to keep moving so i don't become frozen to the outfield grass. good luck to everyone this upcoming softball season.

Discussion: There's STATS and there are stats...

guys,

please correct me if i'm wrong on this. in replying to what santo said about it being hard to fudge OBP. take this scenario .... you come up 4 times during a game, each ab a runner is on 1st base, you ground into a force play each ab. according to OBP you're at .1000, because you're standing on 1st but according to ba you're at .000. over the years i've seen players not deserving of all tournament status receive this award because the coach was going by OBP. (especially when the coach offers his suggestions for all tournament team to the TD) on the other hand i've seen players have much better tournaments but not receive the same award they were more deserving of.

again, if i'm incorrect on this please let me know. but i don't think simply going by OBP is the best reflection of the quality of play a player may have had during that tournament.

one other thought: if you're going to award a player OBP for hitting into a force play or fielder's choice, you certainly cannot hold it against a player for hitting a sacrifice fly and bringing a run across, whether it's the 1st or 5th run of the inning.
