Discussion: Lorenzi Park

Hi All:

A couple questions regarding Lorenzi Park.

Were they letting you take BP in the soccer fields this weekend?

Were balls hit into the net live or were they HR's?

Thank You

I think it is great these two brothers want to join our game. More power to them and great for SSUSA.
Jose did MLB a service by exposing cheaters.

Great job and welcome to SSUSA.

Discussion: Hotels near Lorenzi Park

Hi All:

This year we got a good draw and are playing at Lorenzi Park. I know it is not too far from the north end of the Vegas strip. Do any of you have hotel suggestions that are relatively close to the strip but in the direction of Lorenzi? I have looked at Texas stations and am considering it but just want to see if there are other recommendations a little closer to the strip. Nothing too fancy but don't want a smoke filled flee bag either. Under $150 per night would be great.

Thank You:

Move the fences in to 275', leave the bases where they are today and go back to non composites and the blue/red dots and it would be a good game. I also enjoy the game as it is today. One thing to remember is when the equipment is dumbed down and the fielders move in the gaps shrink for the non power guys. The singles hitters will be pinched and a lot of those hits will not drop in.

Pope paid a lot of $ to travel west and came out on top so I don't see why they would not represent the west. I play on one of the team they beat to get to the top and in the spirit of competition they show be awarded the title.

I have no input for the younger seniors but for the 60 and above teams there should never be a DBO except in AA. Let the older guys who can still play this game at a high level swing away and don't punish them for hitting it out of the park.

Discussion: 2000 Freak 98

Hi John:

The original Freak was a very hot bat. The sweet spot was not as large as a U2 but when you hit it the performance was close to the U2 and those bats were hard to break. If it says Freak 98 on the barrel it is not the bat I had.
I have seen the original Freaks sell for $400+ in our area.

Thanks Chico:

Playing the lower lever HR rule is fine as long as you don't give them any of the other options.

From what I understand you play 3 HR's and give them a choice of 11 fielders or 5 runs (in many tourneys they get all three). I strongly believe if in a case like this if the AAA team takes the 3 HR's they give up the other two options. If the Major team is handicapped in all three of these areas they are toast if the AAA team plays a good game.

I missed the mark on part of my last post. I believe if you are tallented enough to play M+ you should have unlimited HR's.

I play 60 Major and I don't think the new rule will have much effect of the outcome of most of our games as long as we are playing another 60 Major team. We often play 50 Major and 55 Major teams and that is where I believe we are going to see additional injuries as a result of the rule. I play 3rd base and when a younger team with a lot of power starts hitting down on the ball it will not be a lot of fun over at the hot corner. The lefties will also be pounding the 1st baseman. In the smaller tourneys where it is very common to play teams out of your division the folks in charge should seriously consider using the upper team HR rule.

I don't believe a team should ever be required to give runs plus play by the lower team HR rules. The lower team has the choice so they can decide from their own team strengths.

One topic that rarely gets talked about that I believe is broken is when a upper division team plays a lower team. Why should the upper team give runs, an extra fielder and play by the lower division HR rule? It is like giving the lower team a perfect offensive inning using "zero" of their HR's plus the other two benefits. Taking all three and coming up on top at the end of a game is a cheap win. If the lower team (say AAA) team wants a major team to play their HR rule the AAA team should play by the AA HR rule. I suggest if the lower team takes the runs the game should be played by the upper team HR rule.

Discussion: players please respond to rule changes

I am not a big fan of this rule but will live with it.
It takes a lot of time and effort to build a team. Most teams I have been on start recruiting right after Worlds. If you picked up power guys right after the worlds building for 2014 and now the rules are changed do you tell them "sorry" but we need to go in another direction? New rules can easily change the needs of a team and I believe the staff at SSUSA should announce a change like this in July or August if they will be implimented the following year.

I don't have a problem with this rule in AAA or AA and this change does not hurt our team but I do believe they should up the limit in M+ and add a one up rule to M and M+. I play 3rd base and when the big boys try to hit down on the ball it can be a bit uncomfortable.

Discussion: SSUSA AND SPA MEETINGS

When a team plays down a division (Major plays AAA) for instance they are giving the lower team way too much of an advantage by giving runs, AAA HR rules and a defensive player in some cases. If the lower division team is even having a descent game it is hard to the upper team to make up the free runs. Give the lower team the choice. If you take the runs you play the upper team HR rule.

I also agree there is way too much time wasted on inserting courtesy runners. Make it quick or it does not happen. An ump should not wait on a batter to get in the box while he finds his batting gloves or farts around kicking the dirt. A batter should be ready to go or the ump start calling balls and strikes. With time limits the game must keep moving.

Shane:

We all do make mistakes but many are not humble enough to admit it.

Many people on this board don't know how much you do for senior softball here in the NW but those of us who benefit from it appreciate your efforts.

I feel bad for the team that a missed call hurt but unfortunately it is part of playing any game. Hopefully you will get a break your way next year.

Discussion: Reebok 2 piece

Hi Folks:

Does anybody know if the Reebok 2 piece that was supposed to be introduced a few months back ever made it into production? I know Reebok was bought out but I have not heard if the new owners would produce the 2 piece bat.

Thanks:

James
