Is the Melee II going to be ordered in a 12" version? The same for the 2016 Miken's. I heard both of them may make a 12" but is that confirmed?

Thank You:

We have friends in Montana who had a similar problem and they got a couple Airdale Terriers to patrol the property as well as being house pets and the problem was solved.

Discussion: 2016 Miken U2 Maxload

Hi All:

Now that these bats have been out a while and some of you in the nicer areas have had a chance to use them what is your opinion? I bought one about a month ago but the weather has been to shitty to get out and take any cuts. The last couple years I hit with either a Reebok or Miken U2 balanced.

Thank You:

I am probably going to go with a max load Miken. The big sweet spot is hard to pass up.

Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New ear.

Thanks All:

I have had both in my hands and the Dudley feels like a bat I could generate more bat speed with. I have a real hand and wrist type swing if that makes any difference.

Discussion: Bat Selection Question

Hi All:

I want to add a new bat to the bag this year and have it narrowed down to a Dudley 12" and a 2016 Miken U2 end load. I am 5'9" 180lb and play 60 Major. I don't hit many HR's anymore but still hit the ball hard most of the time.

What would you recommend?

Thank You:

Discussion: In your whole softball career who was the individual(s) (coach, player, relative, etc) who had the most impact on your approach, development and how you play the game? And why?

For me it was a guy who was a couple years older than me but I met him when I was in grade school. My older brother played ball with him. His name was Joe Kilby. He was a natural and tough as nails but his approach to the game was like nothing I had ever seen before. Joe is a legend in the northwest for the way he played the game and the person he was. I did get to be on the same team with Joe one year and that was a treat for me. Joe passed away a few years ago but he will always be remembered.

Great post Jim Perry. I believe there needs to be changes also and possibly this will help make it happen. Some of us do have friends on teams that were effected and they are hoping for changes.

Discussion: Thanks For The Help and Support

Hi all:

I was playing at Desert Breeze in the 60M last weekend when the heat took me out Friday afternoon. I want to sincerely thank everybody who came to help plus the umps and tournament director. My teammates and their Wives were awesome. I never did get to meet the person who helped me the most so if somebody can get me his name and email address I would sure appreciate it.
This was not the first time I have been KO's by the heat but this one was different. For those who don't know when this happens you have no idea where you are or who is speaking to you. You are lost and helpless.

Thanks again and I am forever grateful.

Hi All:

This year in Vegas we are playing at Desert Breeze and it is one of the fields I have now seen or heard much about. Can somebody fill me in on infield/outfield conditions, does it have high fences etc...

Thank You:

James

Discussion: Handicaping teams when playing out of age group

Thanks for the quick response SSUSA.

You answered my question. I do remember the Legends doing this and leaving a day early. Will leave it up to the coach but we will probably keep it as scheduled. It is still fun playing the younger teams but it is an uphill battle when they get the early advantage before a pitch is even thrown.

Discussion: Handicaping teams when playing out of age group

Hi Folks:

First off I want to say I have a lot of respect for SSUSA and appreciate the job they do putting on tournaments.
We are playing in a tournament on the west coast in a couple weeks and will be the only team entered (60M) in our age and rating so we will be playing 55AAA teams. When we play 55's we will be using their HR rule plus most likely runs or 11 fielder. My question is since we are the only team in our bracket why can't we just go in as an exhibition team and play the younger guys strait up and use at least our HR rule. This is an important tournament because it is a qualifier but since we really have nobody to play equal why do we have to be the team that is handicapped?

Thank You:

Discussion: Best ball in Hot Weather

The Western Nationals in Sacramento would be a great place to use a ball that does not turn to mush in the hot weather. That tournament needs a lift anyway because the fields are usually not the best.

Discussion: How to get more teams willing to play in the Major-plus division

I believe one point that is missing here is the Major+ tag a player gets when they move up. I think eliminating the tag would make more players want to give M+ a try. Don't punish a player for trying it for a year and if it does not work out they can get the Major status back the following season.

Discussion: SSUSA Rules Committee Meeting

Hi All:

First off I want to say I have a lot of respect for all the folks who run SSUSA. The game and this organization mean a lot to me but when I read the minutes of the rules committee meeting I was a little bit in shock. Is that it or is there parts 2, 3, and 4 to follow?

Discussion: Suggestions for 2015

Hi All:

Now that the season is over for most it is time to throw out suggestions for 2015. I enjoy this game and appreciate all the SSUSA does for us players but I think there is room for changes.

1. The courtesy runner rule is great but it is uses so much it takes too many minutes off the clock and shortens the game. If a runner can run from first to second you should not be able to put in a courtesy runner so he can go second to home.
2. The clock should not start running until the first batter is in the box.
3. No infield practice between innings and stop throwing around the horn after an out. Both of these take time off the clock.
4. I can't speak for the younger guys but in 60 and over ball there should never be a DBO. Anybody who can still hit it out over 60 years old should never be punished for it.
5. In the smaller tournaments it is common for upper teams to play lower rated teams. The upper team always plays by the lower team HR rule plus they give runs or an additional fielder. Give the lower team a choice of one of the three and not two of the three.
6. I am not a big fan of the 3-2 count but if it would help us play more 7 inning games I would say go for it.

Thanks:

James

I believe they all have nets and even the 300' fields are in play if you hit into the net. The ball must clear the net to be a HR.

Thanks for the update.

I heard the fields were in great shape. I don't mind the high fences being live but doesn't that give the power teams an advantage? I wonder if the rule will be the same for the 60's?

Thank You:
