Topic: Bats
Discussion: Well used broken in Freak

This is the problem. The USSSA 1.20 test is bogus. Once the bat is broke in it no longer will pass their current compression test. Why one might ask? Will it is simple. The U2 passed the compression test at 215 pounds but since USSSA has the setting now at 230 to 245 then once the bat has 200+ swings it will no longer pass the test.

But because nothing but new bats will pass the compression test I guess everything will be protested from now on. Once again I would like to thank the associations for messing this up. One wonders why the compression test is not set a 215 since this equates to 1.20? But then if you have to buy a new bat all the time then one does not really wonder.
It is not fair to the players and what else is new now in softball. If someone hits a ball better than the other team thinks they should then a protest is made. Un-warranted as it may be it still will be made. Can't be that the player is good or the bat is legal but broke in. No today it has to be altered. My stock Synergy Extended was checked last weekend. But the protest went no place once the umpire looked at the bat and saw the ASA 2004 stamp. So why was the bat protested? I hit a home run. The new wave of softball.

Best bet to get one is go through a rep. I can get them but that depends on the weight. They are back logged.

I get a shot in each knee four times a year. The shot does wear off at about the 8 week mark but it is better than my other choice which is knee replacements.

I also had my left shoulder done twice last year and it is still going great on just those two.

Yes it would. So would the Synergy extended. But remember they too will get hotter after they are hit.

Sorry I forgot guess I had a senior moment. Rumor has it USSSA and ASA will change their stance on the bats this year. USSSA and NSA will follow the new ASA guidelines and ASA will not allow the grandfather rule to continue of the 100 mph bats after July 1. Which means the Freak and Synergy 2 will be banned if they follow through with this.

Everyone should be glad the SSWC and SPA are around. I don't like their position on the regional rules but at least they have kept their word on the bats.

Boys you are considered a bat doctor by the USSSA if you do anything like this to your bat.

Alteration of a USSSA Marked Bat

"Included in the USSSA view of what is an altered or doctored bat are any bats
that are subjected to pressure in any manner that exceeds that of striking the bat
against an approved ball traveling at game like speeds. Such excess pressure would
include, but is not limited to, any compression, rolling, placing in a vise, hitting a
stationary object such as a pole, etc."

One last thought because it is already happening. Do you really thing the bat company is going to stand behind the player if a stock bat that exceeds the 1,20 is taken from a tournament and sent to the company for testing?

If the bat company say it was one of theirs and stock then they face a bat ban so who do you think they will blame.

Also just so y'll know the 1.20 compression test machine is a bogus test. We tested it in CA and found that out. We took three NIW composite bats and tested the bats before they were hit. All bats passed but 200+ swings later on each bat we retested and all bats failed!! We did this with the Synergy, Mikens and Worths. I am hoping the seniors don't use this machine the USSSA uses but if they do then everyone better take NIW bats to the worlds.

Don,
If I can find a team I will come down. Looks like it would be fun. No rules about regions now that is nice.

Bruce I find that hard to believe. What is the sense in allowing people to play where they want. That is almost un-American. Next thing you know people will be allowed to drive whatever cars they want to buy.

I have e-mailed my coaches to see if either will make the trip. I hope we can that tournament sounds like fun. Unlike some of the others. Guys playings softball with anyone they want. Damn what a concept.

Hey what regional rules do they play? Am I screwed in that one also.

Just a side note I still cannot play in all association because of the regional rule. It seems that when it comes to one standard not all follow. I can play AAA in Terry's association but no one else who follow the new rule. I would have thought if the summit rules were going to be followed then all would follow. Guess not!!!

Gary that is a great move. Wish I could do it but I have to play in the SSWC if I want to play Major Plus these new rules are killing me.

Don, Bruce e-mailed me and told me he talked to Ridge about my situation. He said he is trying to work something out. Does anyone know how to get his cell phone number? I lost it and would like to call him. The Spa is going to have the first worlds this year and I would like to play in it with someone.

In the SSWS I am playing with the Mavericks from SoCal 50+ Major+. In the SSWC KC Masters AAA. Can't play in the Spa or anything else because they want the Masters to move to Major and they won't and they will not let me play out of region.

Juice,
I will be playing for the KC Masters team they are a AAA team. We will be playing AAA this year. I don't think the Classics need anyone. But thanks for asking.

The Freak Plus is a great bat and so is the Combat B1 I would place them together with durability going to the Freak Plus and a little more pop going to the Combat. I have both and love both of them.

PS they are endloaded.

KC Masters 55+ AAA in the SSWC and 50+ Mavericks Major + SSWS. Nothing in the SPA (they will not let me play with the Masters because they are AAA or the Mavericks because they are out of area and we have nothing else.) Might get to play in the LVSSA.

Discussion: Ultra II Beyond 2005

The last time I played against Bruce he used a U2. He is now retired but I played with and against Bruce in the 80' and 90's and he used the best equipment he could get. As did Bill G, Mike M and all of the super major boys. Most of our teams were sponsored by bat companies and thus we used the best bats available at the time. People like Bill G, Mike M., Bruce Meade and the rest did not bust their ass in the gym lifting weights to use crap equipment. They used the best they could get. Even Bruce's Bombat was made for him to his specs.

The worst injury I ever saw was the guy who was killed in FL in the late 70's by a line drive to the chest off a metal bat and what would be considered a dead ball by todays standards.

I can't use the U2 too balanced but those who have them should be allowed to use them until they are gone. They do not make them any more so it won't be long. JMHO
