Oct. 23 youngbuck 4 posts | Bought my dad a bat... really hoping it's the right kind... My dad is about to start playing in the Sun City West Senior Slowpitch league and I wanted to surprise him by buying him a new bat. I'm worried that I didn't get the right kind... I bought him a 2014 COMbat Wanted Fully Loaded: WANSR1-F Slow Pitch bat and it says "Senior League" which I assumed would be the right one as it is Senior League rules but now I'm worried that it isn't the right kind... Does anyone happen to know if he'll be ok using it or if I screwed up and bought the wrong kind. Really appreciate the help :) Here is the bat (didn't buy it from here): http://www.justbats.com/product/2014-combat-wanted-fully-loaded--wansr1-f-slow-pitch/18184/?pa_source=justbats&pa_campaign=newrelease&pa_medium=badges&pa_content=2014-combat-wanted-fully-loaded--wansr1-f-slow-pitch Here is the league info: http://www.azsrsoftball.com/leagues.html |
Oct. 23 cw Men's 65 79 posts | r It looks like even though it is a "senior" league, they require bats with an ASA stamp and rating. The Combat Wanted you bought looks like a brand new issue Senior Softball bat which is only legal for use in SSUSA, ISSA/ISF, and SPA Senior Softball associations. I am sure there is someone out there that will be willing to buy it from you if this is the only league your dad plays in. |
Oct. 23 youngbuck 4 posts | r Thanks for the reply, I was afraid of that! I guess I'll get him to keep it in the wrapper and see if someone can take a look at it for him - craigslist might be in the bats future. |
Oct. 23 cw Men's 65 79 posts | r ...or get him interested in travel ball where he can use it! Most of the players on here have several bats in their bag that are legal in the various associations that they play in. The three most common are ASA, USSSA, and then the Senior associations I mentioned, but there are several others and they each have their own bat rules. I'd be interested to hear how that Wanted hits, being a Combat man myself. |

Oct. 25 HJ Men's 70 481 posts | r Youngbuck, it is nice of you to do this, but it is much more complicated. Your dad should borrow bats for a while to determine what kind of bat he prefers. All slowpitch bats are 34" long, but vary in weight from 26 to 30 ounces and the bat can be balanced, end loaded or half loaded. It is most important that your dad is comfortable with what he swings. Bats are sanctioned by different organizations with different standards and you must be sure the bat your dad picks is an approved bat for the league he plays in. Some guys actually have different bats for when they are tired (many games in short period of time). Sorry it is complicated. |
Oct. 25 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | r Youngbuck: As others have shared, there are senior players who would like that bat and will buy it from you but also, in the event your dad decides to play some tournament ball, it might be a bat he would like to keep. As HJ states, there are different bat models that swing completely different from one another. I ship bats to players around the globe who most have specific wish lists and weight desires. Base hitters often want a balanced bat so they can hit the gaps and if desired, hit to opposite fields. Many home run hitters opt for the end loaded models and like to pull the ball down the lines. Most bats have a different feel to them when they are used. Hope this has been of some help. Ed (970) 729-3145 http://www.reebokmeleelegend.com |
Oct. 29 youngbuck 4 posts | r Thank you to all for the excellent information! I was going to tell him to try out a few bats and let me know the one he likes but the league requires everyone to have their own bats from the get go. @VINNY LV - I'll let you know as soon as it arrives at his house in Phoenix, should actually be there today! I bought it online so I'll let my dad know to bring it down to the league, let them take a look at it and if it's no good (which I'm 99% sure it won't be) I'll get him to give you a call! |
