USING COURTESY RUNNERS
Trying to understand the use of courtesy runners.
This past weekend we played in SoCal and our roster had 11 players and 1 sub.
Can that 1 sub be used as a courtesy runner during the game? In looking at the rules on page 48 & 49 I did not see anything specific to a sub being used as a courtesy runner. The ump did not allow the sub to run.

It appears that the umpire erred ... Any player, starter or substitute, may be a courtesy runner so long as the player is on the game card ... The courtesy runner rules make no distinction between the two ...

An often misunderstood concept by umpires and by managers! When I was rehabbing from rotator cuff surgery, I was a sub at tournaments and courtesy ran in every game although I never swung a bat. Probably unnecessary to add that I never slid headfirst into any base. LOL
