Rating Changes for Vegas
For the SSUSA staff. You posted on August 12, 2016 that the midyear ratings were not yet complete
and would be posted when finished. When will they be finished and will they impact what level teams play at if they are now going to Vegas? Thanks.

Haven't seen any complete list and am in full schedule-prep mode for Las Vegas now, so I'll not likely be doing any looking ... Sessions #1 (Men's 40's and all Women) and #2 (Men's 55's and 60's) team lists for Las Vegas have been posted by age/rating, so you're good to go for those groups ... RATING pages would be where any other changes may have been made ... Look up the team(s) you're interested in and that;s where their current ratings will be ... You can sort the lists by "Date" to see when any changes might have been made ...

Thanks Dave for the quick response. I did go to the ratings page and it states on August 12th "We are still working on ratings changes. When complete we will post them here". Begs the question what happened to the normal June ratings update? What if I was a team that requested a move down after not competing well at a new higher level? What if I was a team that won every tournament this year by large margins? I believe that it is SSUSA that stated that updates will be done in December and June. Just wondering why the update in June did not happen. Seems like a fair question. Not asking you Dave, you have more than enough to do with scheduling Vegas. Thanks.

Hi Missouridave,

We have talked in the past and met at one of the tournaments. Good to see you on here. There have been many rating changes since mid season. It just has not been presented like the usual way in the past. There were some teams bumped up and some bumped down. Par for the course, there are several teams that definitely should have been bumped up and a few that should have been moved down. There were teams moved up and down, that should have just stayed where they were. I would not expect any more changes to be made, until after the Worlds. After the Worlds, you will see the other teams that should of been moved up or down being done, because the one's that should have been moved down, will be losing and by double digits, and the one's that definitely should have been moved up, going through the winners bracket with ease. All the teams, players, umpires, and SSUSA know which teams are in question. There is a method to all this, and there are those that are exempt for one reason or another. Just the way it is and has always been. I have given up being concerned about it any more, and just try to play by the rules fairly. In general, about 95% of what is done, is done as fairly as possible. So many teams play in SSUSA tournaments, because they put on the best show. Honestly, you cannot argue with success. After SSUSA posts the session 4 list of teams for the Vegas Worlds, there will probably be over 600 teams participating in the largest ever World tournament.

With that said, good luck to your team and have a great time! I am rooting for all the "Cinderella" teams to win this year!

Just My Humble Opinions,

Andy Smith

Andy,
Thanks for the note. I agree with everything you said. Just curious as to why the staff did not respond and why they did not post the usual list that shows requests for movement up and down and the results. When they change the way they communicate this kind of data I guess they don't realize that they create all kinds of suspicion by the players. I can easily see who changed after 12 August by simply going to the ratings page and setting it up to sort by date. I would like to see who requested a change and how SSUSA responded. Good luck to you Andy and hope you are at Vegas. My team took second last year in 60AAA so we will be playing 60 Major this year at Vegas. Hope to see you there.

Well Dave, what can I say. By the lack of doing what is correct, will cause some ill feelings and loss of some teams in the future. This is a business too, and if you lose a few teams and more sign up, then why would they care. They should care because, some times in a business, you tend to forget how you got where you are today, and one day it will hit you, when things are not so prosperous. Good luck in the 60 Major bracket. We will not see each other this time, because I am playing 65 Major this season. Unless, someone gets desperate and needs me to play. By coincidence, the team that I am playing with this season is playing one of those teams that should have been bumped up, and we have to give them 5 runs this weekend. This other organization uses the SSUSA ratings. The problem is that teams can change their rosters, as there is no control as to who plays with what team. What a joke! They are picking up a couple of players for this tournament, since it is not an SSUSA tournament. It is what it is.

Andy, this is Dennis, your old teammate from Double Edge. This is the second time that someone has taken a shot at OTE. It seems like we should change our name to the Lord Voldemorts because no one wants to speak our name. Tell me, why would a Major player even care what is going on at the AAA level. Wouldn't your time be better spent trying to get a good Major team bumped up to Major Pllus?
BTW, the last time we had to play Major teams, we played them straight up and I fully expect our management to do the same this weekend. I am actually stoked that our three games Saturday are against two Majors and a Major Plus. Maybe on Monday I will agree with you, but all of that is secondary to the joy of playing softball.

Hi Dennis,

Normally, I would agree with you, and I would not have said anything, just like the first time your team was called out about a month ago, because I am playing Major. In fact, if this thread was not started, I would not have said a thing. I talk to a couple of guys on OTE, and they know that they are a Major team and very happy to be left alone for at least the Worlds. Win or lose the Worlds, they will probably be playing Major next season. I think! Maybe! Who knows! If OTE plays us straight up this weekend, that would be admirable of you guys. I think 99 out of a 100 times, a team that has won so many tournaments in one season, would get bumped up. They are probably under the 5 run per game limit too, but we all know how to get around that number in seeding games or a specified tournament. Lastly, OTE took a huge beating in the 60 Major division last year, and it appears that SSUSA is sympathetic to that, which is not a completely bad thing.

Dennis, I just had a chance to look at the draw sheet for this weekend, and have no clue why we are even playing your team and the other 3 teams, instead of playing the other Major team and Major Plus team. I would rather have played those 2 teams 2-3 times each, because it turns out our game against OTE is just a seeding game that counts in a different division, just to determine whether we will play 1 game or possible 2 games on Sunday in our division at 1130 and/or 1. Crazy set up.

BTW, I care about all divisions, because I have friends in all divisions, and I have played in all divisions. Now, I mostly have played Major and Major Plus the past 10 years. Honestly Dennis, I have been playing 65 Major for a little over a year. Once OTE is playing Major, they will be a force to be reckoned with. I have only seen a handful of strong teams, which I know OTE will be able to compete. Sorry that I did not mention the obvious, your team name, OTE. I think I mentioned it about 7 times in this message. Hope I counted right. LOL!

It will be nice to see you out there. I hope you are doing well. I know you have had tough times not too long ago. Happy to see you out there playing. It is always good to hear from you. Lets just have a fun time playing and continue our friendship.

Take care,

Andy Smith
