VA BEACH UPDATES
All-

Asking for patience. The last round of games were stopped in progress (rain / lightning). I am headed back to the hotel now to build the Sunday schedule. Managers will get an email or text from me this evening with updates.

Tim, great job this weekend with the Tidewater tourney and all the weather issues on Sunday morning...I was talking with a few of the other managers and we were wondering if in the future, we could get the winner's bracket final done on saturday instead of sunday morning like it was scheduled....here were a few things observed, the winner of the first game sunday morning in the winner's bracket would have played at 930 and would have to wait until 3pm to play their next game...with the weather situation, that pushed all the earlier games back but there was still a 3 hour wait for the winner's bracket team to play their next game after their first win....saturday afternoon we were done at 1 pm with a few fields open and 2 teams that were in the winner's finals at the field and ready to play if they had to do that....either way, all the teams except 1 would have played sunday if they got their 5th game completed...plus it rewards the winner's finalist a steady schedule on sundays with maybe 1 game wait at most to finish the bracket....just an observance over the weekend...thank you

Thanks for the good words. I appreciate it. Here are some quick thoughts on scheduling at the Tidewater Classic.

PAAC COVID rules required that we schedule games every 105 minutes vs the traditional 90 minutes. Teams were not supposed to be allowed in the park until 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start times. You probably encountered SSUSA COVID directors trying to enforce those rules this weekend and holding teams at the outer marker. There were no "open" fields on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. What you may have witnessed was a field sitting "empty" because the prior game ended early (mercy rule, etc) and the next team's not being allowed at their field until the next scheduled time. That was a bit of an issue, but we were just trying to meet the rules that were in place.

Regarding the gap between winner bracket finals and championship game- that was a decision I made based on Saturday night's weather stoppage and Sunday's weather forecast. I flip-flopped winner bracket finals and played them ahead of 4th place games so that we'd have a single unbeaten team if the rains came.
Hope this helps- Tim
